i just bought my tiburon about 2-3 months ago with only 15,000 miles on it and now its at about 17,700.it's a 2001 auto (unfortunately). a couple days ago i took it to coastline, and ended up having to take it to the dealership and it turns out i need a new transmission, and axle. has anyone else ran into this problem, and will i have anymore upcoming problems i will most likely run into? i just bought intake, and a new performance muffler for it, and then i ran into this problem and start college the 25th. how unfortunate. so i dont know if it was on behalf of the previous owner, as to why this happened, or it's just the manufacturer, but if anyone could give me some info, i'd highly appreciate it.

thanks,
courtney

um my girl's got a 01 auto (not unfortuntely) it's got 24k miles on it (bought new, she's the only driver) and she has only had a problem with the radiator cap... besides that, it drives like a dream... i'd check where you bought those aftermarket parts from and who you got to install em to make sure no one was screwing with your tranny when they did it.

i didnt get the aftermarket parts installed yet. the cai comes today, and i have the muffler sitting at my house. i was going to get them installed, within the next week. before i got the chance to get them installed, my tranny went, along with the axle. the only thing thats been changed in my car, is a pioneer cd player, sealed box with 2 12" audiobahns, with an audiobahn amp.so maybe the previous owner did something to it. it appeared to be running fine until a couple days ago.

First welcome to the forum,
now questions?
When you took it to the coastline, did you do anything out of the ordinary that just might mess up the axle/transmission?
Was it working/feel fine before taking it in to the dealership?
Did the previous owner give you a history report of the vehicles maintenance? Was the vehicle purchased at a dealership or from the previous owner. If it was a Hyundai dealership, Is the vehicle covered under the warranty?
I know its alot of questions but the more we know the better the members and techs here can help you.

Thank you. Actually I took it to coastline because it was acting up, in the morning when I dropped off someone at school. The night before it was kind of acting up making a grinding noise that I thought could have been the tire rubbing against the wheel well.It started acting even worse in the morning, so right after I dropped her off to school,I called Coastline, and beings I go there frequently with other cars, Coastline checked it out. They called the Hyundai dealership. When I bought it I had bought it at a dealership that sells new and used vehicles, the place is called Vatland Honda. When I first got the vehicle they told me I only had 3,000 miles of the warranty left or 90 days. When Coastline called the actual Hyundai dealership, they told them that there was still a 5 year warranty left meaning from the year it was made. So I have 2 years left on the warranty, or until I hit 60,000, which it's only at 17,700. My dad and I had to tow it to the dealership, because it would have torn it up even more if I drove it to the dealership which is about 30 mins away. My fault is that I didnt mention the carfax report, and if I could get a copy. So I called where I bought it today to have them fax me a copy. The vehicle from the previous owner had it pretty well maintained, but the only thing I know of is that she took it to get an oil change on a regular basis. So I don't know if in the meantime she thrashed it. I really appreciate any help you can give me.

it is under warranty, i just wanted to know why it happened, or if anyone ran into the same problem. i got the results from carfax and it wasnt involved in any wrecks or anything like that. but its a little odd that with that low of mileage the tranny and axle already is shot.

sounds quite the odd case... more than likely the previous owner screwed around with it... i won't lie... i put my oil in my car every 3 months or 3k miles, and i drive my j30 like a bat out of hell every so often just for the heck of it... you never know... but my j30 is also a 93 and has 130k miles on it... so it's a bit warmed up already...

yeah it is. it just really irked me, it's a inconvenience, though i have my moms expedition, and shes getting the rental car, until my car is fixed.i just want to know if i have any up and coming problems i might run into. but with cars you never really can tell until it happens. ive kept all my cars really well maintained. i may not drive like an angel, but if i ever run into problems, the day i notice something wrong i get it checked out. so i guess im glad i took it in when i did, or else i probably would have needed more work done.for a 93, that's not that bad of miles.

My son also has a 2001 Tiburon, he has already had to replace brakes, cracked manifold and now it is sitting in yard because it has no reverse so he now needs transmission. After he replaced manifold he later received letter saying there was a recall on it.so what I've already heard from people having the same problems with transmissions. This sould also be a recall.
