new transmission for 95 GSR

I found out today that I will need to get a new transmission for my 95 integra GSR in the next year, so I want to know what my options are etc. I have ~135k miles on it so far and I figure (correct me if I'm wrong) that if I do a new transmission I should be able to get at least another 130k miles. So far I don't have any modifications besides slotted rotors and performance brakes.
Questions?
1. Do I have to get a 95 integra gsr tranny?
2. How easy is it to install it myself or should I just get it done?
3. How can a get a good one cheap and how much?
4. If I'm going to put in a new tranny, what kind of performance clutch should I get and where should I get it?
5. If I do a new tranny, I plan on keeping the car for a long time, what performance mods are worth doing (keep in mind I don't want to sacrifice reliability)
6. Should I consider getting a new engine/transmission together?
Keep in mind I drive my car hard and it is a commuter car.

why the hell do you need a tranny next year.if its broken now than replace.you dont know when to change a trnny or does anybody else unless its broken allready. tell the person to stop the bull shit cuz he doesnt know squat.look me and a lot of people will save you alot of money cuz we arent trying to take your money.just dont double clutch so much and be on the freeway in fith and rev then drop to 3 that will save your tranns.explain to me what is wrong with your tranny.

1. It doesn't always shift smoothly
2. It pops out of second gear some times
3. It gets stuck in a gear when at a standstill (1st or reverse)
4. It doesn't always shift into 1st without pumping the clutch pedal
5. Gear shifter vibrates when pushing the revs
It should last for at least another 10k miles, but I want to know what I'm in for if I have to replace the tranny

Maybe your slave cylinder is going out, happened to me. Check Motor mounts for the vibration, they may be loose or torn. Get your tranny fluid changed also. And if the previous owners havent changed the radiator fluid you should do so now.

What is a slave cylinder, and how do I check whether it is going out? I don't think the vibrations I feel are because the motor mounts are loose, just doesn't feel that way, but I'll check them anyway.

Slips out of gear Troubleshooting.
1.) Worn or improperly adjusted linkage
2.) Transaxle loose on engine
3.) Shift linkage does not work freely, binds
4.) Input gear bearing retainer broken or loose.
5.) Dirt between clutch cover and engine block.
6.) Worn shift fork.
Locked in gear Troubleshooting.
Lock pin or interlock pin missing
Vibration
1.) Rough Wheel Bearing
2.) Damaged driveaxle
3.) Out of round tires
4.) Tire out of balance
5.) Worn CV Joint
Take your car to the shop and get the slave check also. It could be a number of things

could be the sincros.did you do this to your tranny.if you need to go into reverse push clutch in then go to second or first then to reverse without pumpin the clutch.works everytime

However if it's a syncro problem, then I will have to replace the tranny at some point in time (within the next year or two) right? I know there are ways to make a tranny last, but replacement seems to be inevitable and i should start saving to buy a new one (rebuilt, or Jap Import)

Depending on the actual problems your having will determine if you should or shouldnt buy a new or rebuilt transmission, I would go the cheapest route first and get it looked at. Cause lefts face it, if your tires are out of balance or your linkage just needs to be adjusted, you would be spending all that money for nothing.

I got a new clutch at 95k, and I got the tranny flushed at 130k, so draw you conclusion. Also, how do I check out the things mentioned above or should I just have a mechanic look it over? I mechanic told me that my clutch isn't wearing evenly (that's normal), considering how I drive my car, and that I probably wouldn't have to replace it for about 10k. The shifting problems where a sign that my syncro's in my tranny are wearing out-therefore I would have to replace it when it stops working. I'll get an estimate soon and you can tell me if it's reasonable, if I could do it myself I would (save myself a bunch of money, but I don't know if I would end up wasting more money by screwing something up, or not getting good parts)

ok since you have already been to one mechanic, try another and see if his is theory is the same. Some people cheat you, others are honest. Only one way to find out. I had to learn the hard and expensive way.

Hipothetically, If I am forced to get a new tranny, should I have it done or is it easy enough to remove and install a new one with help from my friends? What's the best way in which to aquire a good one at a good price? What kind of performance clutch should I get (no turbo)? And what modifications should I make to my car...intake, exaust, chip? Think most horsepower for the least amount of money.
By the way, the CRX looks good, I have never liked them because most idiots put lights and a spoiler on them with a huge exaust tip and they sound like lawn mowers. It looks as though you have done your's right.
And you guys are right about lights and a paint job giving you horsepower, I have seen that all to often, what's the point of spending $ on your car if it isn't any faster?

How the hell did you crack your tranny? It it cheeper to get a new motor and tranny than just a tranny? Also are you using a repair-manual...if so which one?
