I have installed 3 different subwoofers into my 2001 eclipse and they all have started burning and blew up. I got a new amp and a kicker pro comp vr yesterday, installed it and it started burning within 10 minutes. Can somebody tell me what I might be doing wrong and if there has been problems with the car on this situation?

mmmmmmmmmmmm.....i'm just going to assume you had all the wires hooked up right, could it be that your eclipse is cursed? naawww...
i'm going to go w/ the compatibility issue, somehow ur amp is pushing too much power to your sub and causing it to incinerate...

are your subs moving past it's max excursion? if they are "throwing" too far you are overpowering your subs and frying the voice coils. are you using a converter on your factory radio for the rca signal? if so you could have it set too high and are feeding too much rca voltage to your amp giving a bad signal to the sub. what kind of box? too large of port will fry subs easily as well as a sealed box that is way too small. give me some more details and i can help.

Well I only have one subwoofer hooked up to the amp. Maybe I should hook up both of them and that would fix it? I am not using an converter for the factory radio. I am using input/output. the box is an custom box and i know that it is the right size. im thinking its cause i only have 1 speaker hooked up.

what kind of amp and what kind of sub? is the sub a dual voice coil? is the amp bridged? hooking up only one sub makes it easier to overpower a sub depending on it's ohms and rms wattage rating.

I am thinking that maybe you are running to low of an amperage. Try to install at least a 2.2 farad power cap. I have three dvc 12" subs in my 2001 eclipse and I am running 1000+ watts and have had no problems. I have also installed an optima battery and 4 guage wire. Make sure your power wire and ground wire are the same size. If you are running dvc subs make sure you are wiring the subs in correct phase. so the speaker isnt canceling itself out and creating too much heat therefore melting the voicecoils. If that doesnt help ya let me know.
