Which Vehicle Speed Sensor to use in B16

Hey all- i've got another question for ya. The vehicle speed sensor (or whatever the thing is that hooks up into my trans close to the rear engine mount) that came with my B16A SIR 1 w/ Y1 cable trans is electronic, and has a wire coming out with a connector on the end. My 89 CRX Si's speedometer is mechanical (the old D16 used a cable operated VSS). I need to know what car to get the cable operated VSS that will bolt into my Y1 trans. I think it might be the 92-93 Integra GSR, but i am not completely positive. please give me any help possible. thanx

Thanks for the double post. please dont do it again.
Now I answered some of the question in your other post. :D
If your useing the SiR dash then you need the electronic VSS. If your useing your old USDM speedo then you need the cable driven one from your old g/box.
However I always thought the B16a needed a VSS signal to work properly, as one requirement of the VTEC engagment is road speed.

I wanted to do a B16A in my other CRX that i bought and was wondering the same question. Could you be a little more specific on your quote above please.:D

Well, on most cars the speedo is driven by a cable comeing out of the g/box and entering the back of the speedo. Its purely mechanical.
However VTEC equiped Hondas use a VSS which converts the round and round motion of the G/box into a digital signal that is used by the ECU to help determine when to engage the VTEC (thats why it wont engage when the car isnt moving), this signal is also sent to a digital Speedo.
Now in theory this means that when you put a B16a into a USDM civic with its cable operated speedo you need to replace the cable with a VSS so that the ECU has all the info it needs and dosnt get upset and start trowing codes. But this means that if you want a speedo that works you need to use a Honda Digital speedo.
However im not totaly sure on this, can some with a B16a swap tell me if they used thier old cable driven speedo and didn't install a VSS, or if they converted to the JDM SiR dash.

I am pretty sure most people have just kept the mechanical driven speedo with no problems. I should finally finish hooking up my swap this weekend so I will tell you if the mechanical driven speedo works.:)
