It's a storm chasers heaven!
Glad to hear you're ok Toks. Hope everything is ok with the ride. It sounds similar to what happened to Florida last week, 2 hurricanes in a row: Bonnie and Charlie.
Weather world wide has been a bit abnormal. Here in New Jersey, New York and other parts of the Tri-State area in the States, it's been an awfully cool but surpringly comfy summer. Where I live in North Jersey, about 40 minutes from New York City, the temperature this whole summer hasn't reached 90° Farenheit(SP) at all. the warmest it has been has probably been 87-89 degrees. On average, we get from 85-98 degree weather on a normal summer, and that is everyday. The temperature has been from as low as 72° to around 83-85°. In the evening and night, it got as cold as 58° in some parts of North Jersey and it should be around 70° to 80°. Then we've had consistent rain almost 2-4 days every week, but it usually is natural for an afternoon thunderstorm to form: from the warm wind moving west, and up the windward side of the Appalachians, meeting with the cold atmospheric air in the sky, causing an unbalance air system, forming the storms. I live on the windward side of the mountains so it is common for T-storms to form, but basically, our summer here has been cool and wet. Then the 2 hurricanes in a row hit florida.
It all has to do with the temperature of the oceans. Either we are under an El Niņo, or the Atlantic Ocean is abnormally cool. There are other possibilities but i have to remember them.

grow up dude. I'm not going to even start, and I do not know why you did, because it's rude when it's not your thread, and it's on a different subject. I know i made a hole that will be hard to get out of, if at all, but do you really have to keep up with antagonizing me?
Is the storm still going on Toks? Was it declared a Nor Easter, or typhoon or w/e?

Not big enough to land a fully loaded 747. :( One runway only.

Could a 777 be landed? if not, what's the biggest, 'cuz i bet it's a bummer for travelers to have to take a transfer stop onto a smaller plane.
BTW, any status on your car door?

There are no 777's used by any Airliners down here. Air New Zealand have two 7E7's on order, though.
Wellington has landed 747's on a few occasions, according to my mum. 767's take off from there on a regular basis as well.
Foreskin- the Wahine storm was an April one, not an August one, you doofus :p

Two runways, technically.
16 and 34.
Anyway. My roof leaked and soaked my bed, so I relocated the command post to the lounge.
Went for a cruise with the scanner on at 1300. Damage wasn't too bad by then. The Nissan handles deep water quite nicely, though not as well as the old Mazda did. That thing was a beast in the water.
Couple of big slips State Two, being cleaned up. The lights at my hill were off, then were going, then were off again.
Riverside Drive was fucked up again. Poor bastards, twice in six months their house gets fucked.

The 747s that have landed here are the 747SP, which is the cargo version. They also have next to no fuel and definatly no cargo on board.

Fucked if I know. Big international flights land in Auckland or Christchurch then transfer here. The airport already is on reclaimed land, no chance of expansion.
As for the car door. Right now the Camry's in the workshop at work, since we didn't want to drive it home in this weather with the door half open. Insurance seems willing, so it's off to the assessor tomorrow.
*edit* Thanks for fixing my mistakes, Rhys :)
The lights at work kept flickering.

Wellington has two 1938m (I think, from memory) runways, orientated at 340 and 160.

From the provided picture of zebra, i saw that the taxiway was even too small for the wingspand of a normal 747-400. I guess most import and export is done by sea. Plus the 747-440 needs around 2400-3200 meters for safe landing.
Did you hear about the new Boeing 747-600X zebra? Wingspan is supposed to be 50 feet longer, and the length from nose to tail fin about 55 feet longer.

That's where all the big planes land. Auckland actually has a pretty awesome Airport, too bad the rest of the place is a hole....

NZCH (Christchurch) is one big motherfucker, too. The runway there is HUGE.
Used to get a lot of C5s in, now a few 141s and the odd C17.

Blah blah blah.......
Let me guess, you traded the yaught for a 747?
Iv spent 12.5hrs piloting a real aircraft, and Iv spent hundreds of hours playing a wide variety of flight sims the two have about as much incommon as WRC the game has with WRC the sport. If you think that playing MS flight sim gives you in-depth knowledge of modern aviation then you really are a fool.

Yeah, I got a little suspicious of those video games when I drove into a hairpin turn at 300 km/h, understeered and didn't bounce off and keep going.....

I haven't taken biology classes yet so I do not know. And the question presented is not related to airplane travel; other than the fact that low altitude airplanes could collide with certain birds.
If you think that playing MS flight sim gives you in-depth knowledge of modern aviation then you really are a fool.
I never said that. It is just a basic simulator, that gives you some of the fun but very little reality to actual aviation. It just supplies a small background on what pilots do, and how they fly an airplane. Nothing thorough. What's cool is the prep school im going to, Blair Academy has an extra-fee course for aviation travel which should be cool and educational. The instructor is a former and retired airforce and commercial airline pilot, along with several other retired FAA officials.

Yes it is. The velocity of an unladen sparrow can be a direct influence on an aircraft if a birdstrike occurs. My God man, the very speed of the bird could decide whether the plane crashes or not!
