- What is the difference Between The RalliArt & The OZ-Rally? -

i know a bit about cars, i wouldnt say im a mechanic, but i know more than most drivers my age.
mainly becuase my dad taught me how to drive and hes a performance driver and all that jazz, in any case, on to my question.
im going to get a new car within the next 2 days, now ive test drivin 12 different cars and makes and i ended up choosing the mitsubishi ralliart.
i would love the EVO but im 18 and my insurrance would be hell if i bought that car.
heres the scoop though, the ralliart just came out, and chances are, im not going to find one around the $10k range, however the OZ-Rally 2002-2003 is very similer, and can be found $10k or less. (used)
i read the specs on the 2 cars, and test drove both of them, however, i noticed the 120hp on the OZ whilist the Ralliart had 160hp as well as 160lbs of torque.
the bodies are slightly different, but not a big deal.
in any case, what are the MAYJOR differences between the 2 cars.
are they the same car, just a different name for the 2004 model?
is the 2.4 liter engine that much better?
is the suspension different?
can i modify the OZ to boost the performance to the ralliart level and higher?
i know for every driver its different, i considder myself a performance driver (not reckless), as thats just the way i learned to drive, so im trying to get the best performance out of the vehicle while keeping the car itself around the $10k USD price range.
i do plan to mod the car for more performance and traction, but if i can get it with all the work done, or atleaste most of it, please lend a hand on wich car would best suit my needs.
PS: im getting my car for a Dealers car auction as my dad is partners in a dealership, so im hoping to get one for cheap, but i doubt i will find the ralliart for under 10k, so please help me to see what i would need to upgrade an OZ to a ralliart.
thank you for your help, i would reccommend this forum to anyone needing help with their lancer.

The ralliart has mitsubishi's MIVEC system in it. It's the same principle as Honda's VTEC and Toyota's VVT-I. In addition to that, it's a bigger engine. As compared to the OZ, the Ralliart has better stock exhaust, better suspension, 4 wheel disc brakes.
You could use a turbo or a piggyback ecu system to come close to a stock ralliart's numbers, but there's simmilar options for the ralliart as well so the differences woudl be moot.
and keep in mind, the Oz is no different from the ES asides from the seats, guages, factory lip kit(not body kit), misc badges, and a (thin)factory anti-sway bar.
so if money isn't a deciding factor, then i'd say go with the ralliart(17,900 roughtly msrp). If you're looking forsomething cheaper, then the oz or ES(13,000 roughtly) would be the way to go. but if your gonna g owith the oz and mod it to heck, ten i'd say go with the cheaper ES and spend te difference on mods.
hope that helped, sorry for rambling.

thanks for the help......interesting.
so the ralliart and oz-rally arent the same model lancer, i thought they just changed the name for the new year, and added a few things here and there.
i have one more question.
what are the differences in safety on the 2 cars, since you mentioned
""(thin)factory anti-sway bar""
i thought the rollbars and safety features were the same on the 2 cars.

i believe there's a factory bar on each, but it's nothing caompared to the performance aftermarket stuff. but it'll do if it's not gonna be tracked. as far as safty goes, the ralliart has stadard 4 wheels discs with ABS, and the oz is front disc/rear drum and doens't even have the option for abs. the ralliart also has fog lights which the OZ does not.

thanks for the info, im going to the auction tomorrow, wish me luck, hehe :loser:
im going to go for the ralliart then, if its only going to cost me 3 or 4 grand more then its worth it.
i do have one more question though, do either the ralliart or the OZ have 4wd? (4 wheel drive) or is that only the evolution?
again thanks for all the info, youve been most helpful.

because i allready own a DeLorean, i love the car to death but i need an every day car for college now, since i dont want to bring my DeLorean to the school as my schools located in another city.
my DeLorean only has 7000 miles on it. (5 speed)
its not a super fast car, and doesnt have any modern cars agillities, but was still way ahead of its time. :smokin:
in any case i wanted an everyday 4 door car that still had good performance and didnt cost that of a BMW or a merc.
i have to get ready now for the auction, so ill give more details later.

back from the auction, there wasnt 1 friggin lancer out of 1500 cars. :screwy:
but thats ok i guess, im just going to have to buy one out of state.
there was however a subaru rwx, im not sure what model or whatever, it looked exactly like this htough, the color, body and everything.
http://www.evolutionimports.net/images/models/imprezasti/imprezawrxsti_01.jpg
i didnt get to see how much it went for, i should have considdered it, but i havent drivin it, and know nothing about it, so i didnt take the chance.
probabily went really cheap considdering the entire bidding crowd were old geezers with tubby's on them, not to mention every other car was either a ford or a saturn.
oh well, if anyone knows where i can find a ralliart for under 15k please do post.
i can get one brand new from the dealer for 15k (because of the dealers license), but i believe i can still find one cheaper, it can be used, doesnt matter to me.
again, thanks for all the help from everyone. :sunglasse

umm i can tell u straight away that u will have much more fun and a nicer experience driving a WRX than a lancer (unless it was an EVO).

well, the lancer is less obvious, the last thing i need is a ticket or a key'ed car.
the inside looked very similer to the lancer to me.
but the RWX is considdered a sports car right?, so yeah, oh well.
ill keep everyone posted on my car status, not that anyone here is going to get excited about it lol. :icon16:
