My friend called Nissan North America, but i can't find any sources. Someone he knew was buying one and he was the first to know about this. He said Renault was the one who made the decision...Can anybody confirm this?

hmmmm, I guess it would make sense if it is true. Since they are beefing up the Altima so much, the Maxima is kind of in a weird sport between the camry and the Avalon. For the at least a few grand less, you can get an altima with pretty much the same options....

The only thing is, why would they put all the time and money into R and D for the new designed 04 model, if they were only gonna keep it 1 year.

^sales might have fallen way short of expectation and it may be more financially sound to cease production then to hope sales pick up. just a possibility.

I don't think they'd just dump the maxima though. i bet it goes RWD at some point before they finish it off for good.

But then I think they'd be canabalizing the G35 sales at the Maximas current price.

OKAY I called Nissan North America today. Spoke to 4 different ppl there. They said it's a made up story so it's FALSE. Sorry about the misunderstanding, but that bastard friend of mine is getting his ass handed...end of story

have you seen the new infiniti M35's and M45's? they have a VQ35 rwd standard with optional AWD and then there is the 4.5L v8 version available only in RWD. it's my opinion that the v6 version is going to be the basis for the next generation of maxima. http://www.infiniti.com/content/0,5757,cid-33903_sctid-52321,00.html it's till in the conceptual phase to some degree but they let you build your own so it's gotta be coming soon.

I like to one day see Infiniti's V-8 as an option in the Nissan line cars!!!!! V8 Maxima? That'll be wicked!

There is no way in hell I would believe that story. Of course its FALSE. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I was up in NJ at the end of July I saw a lot of '04 Maximas. And in TN (where I live/where the plant is as well), I have seen many more '04 Maximas running around now.

I think it slowly grows on people. I didn't like the nose but Sarona offers a great grille for it. I truely believe the car grows on people. The bank I go to a lady there owns a silver SE model. My g/f didn't like she always called it a boat, but now she says it is growing on her and she is starting to like it.

I work at Shoneys and a silver SE with a G35 type wing rolled in today. That car makes a statement IMO when it cruises in. I am not a fan of the SL models at all, mostly because of the wheels, the SE screams look at me!

And by seeing a lot more of these running around now, I definetly wouldn't think Renault/Nissan would kill the Maxima so quickly. I have a feeling this car will be converted to RWD and will probably be the first car in Nissan's lineup to get the V8 for next generation.
