2000 Lumina transmisson problem

My 2000 Lumina does great when cold but when it warms up I get a little roughness in the shifting and can hear a hum in the transmisson. I changed the fluid and filter but no change. The car runs great otherwise I am concerned with the noise and rough shifting. Anyone know the fix?

I'm not sure on this, but ask your dealer about GM trans fluid friction modifier. Some people have told me it helps. Mine works fine, so I haven't had reason to try it.

my 2001 when I first purchased it with 38,000 miles, the tranny would kind of mis second, you know, shudder a little before it locked into second gear, even under very very light acceleration, well I had a 90 day warrenty from the dealer, so I figured, if the tranny's going, I'm gonna make damn sure it goes before the warrenty expires. So I canned on it, and made it shift as hard as it could, and now wouldn't you know it? it shifts as smooth as they day it came off the assembly line. Still origional tranny fluid and filter, although, its aproaching 45,000 miles, so I'm going to have it flushed and changed here pretty quick. Good luck with your problem. I would just drive it. And the hum your talking about, are you sure this isnt a wheel alignment issue? Just my two cents worth.

I also have a 2000 Lumina that I bought with 23k miles on it in 2001. The transmission works great and shifts smooth untill I get around 7 to eight miles on it and then it shifts with a jolt and it wines. The car now has 68k. I have had the trans serviced with new fluid and filter. Sounds like our cars are doing the same thing? Other than this I love the car? Any thoughts out there?

I've got a 2000 as well. It's got about 140K on it now. Does the same klunk/whine thing as well. I first thought it was associated with parking on a steep incline at work... but that was ruled out when it started up again when I parked on a level surface.

I've found that if you just pull over and turn the enging off for a few seconds and start up again it goes away......??computer problem??

I had the same problem a few months ago. It went away after I had the pressure control solenoid replaced. The humming is the sound of a bad solenoid begging you to replace it -- if you don't, your overdrive will self-destruct and you'll most likely need a rebuild.

Do a search here or in a few of the Buick forums(LeSabre, Century, etc...) for "PCS" or "Pressure Control Solenoid" and you'll find a million other cases of this exact problem.

After the intake manifold gaskets, the PCS seems to be the second most common "major" problem with these cars.

Also, this can usually be fixed cheaply($300 -$400) without dropping the tranny. However, you'll probably be better off if you spend the extra cash and have the tranny pulled out and other potentially problematic parts replaced before they get a chance to cause you grief. Aside from the PCS, the TCC will go on you eventually, along with one or two other PCS-related parts that I don't remember the name of right now.

These trasmissions are garbage, so it's best to pull them out once and get it over with.

those trannys are bad on lumina's my son went threw two of them.
