Was talking with my mechanic... the suspension yea i had to do, i need new tires badly, but ive got 154,4** miles on it, engine and trans both... is it really worth it? in his words "one day you're gonna go to start it and the engine's gonan blow, then you gotta do the motor" so basically save up for that or a new car (cough cough z28), jus get the new tires and jus drive it till it goes basically... i dunno i see what hes saying yet at the same time i wanna pour money into it. is it worth it?

if you take good care of it, dont hot rod it, keep it serviced, it will last you, my 91 rs had 245,000 on a
3.1 liter, i know that mileage is scary, but it was well maintained by its original owner, also by me, but when it started 210,000 gas mileage went down hill, tranny weakend, it lost power, but it was a good car, only thing i had to do to it was a fuel pump and an alternator, i bought it with 100,000 and traded it when she hit almost 246,000 miles. if you have a good job keep the red sixer, and save for that z28. then trade her in.

If you wanna go fast I say definately save up for something with a V8.
Sure you can get power out of a V6 or just swap in an 8 cylinder, but the Z28s also look different and handle better and its alot of work to upgrade everything when you could just sell yours and buy a nice one.

well I doubt i would be able to sell this for too much. Sure I put the z28 springs and shocks, but its a 6er with a leaking rear main seal and a lot of miles on it

i didnt know that you had a leaky rear seal, mine had that problem costed $325 for a mechanic to fix.

yea since i bought it. mechanic said if they opened it up to fix, it would start a whole mess of problems with the trans, etc because of the miles
tacoma man.

i was told that same thing, its all because they dont want to be liable for anything else. that car that i had actually ran better after it had a new seal put in.

yea since i bought it. mechanic said if they opened it up to fix, it would start a whole mess of problems with the trans, etc because of the miles what a crock! They do not have to open anything up to change it. all they do is pull the tranny. I am not sure about the V6, but th V8 takes a whopping 5 minutes to change the seal once the tranny is out of the way.
Any parts that you buy for the car (except engine parts obviously) can be swapped to any 4th gen car, so if you upgrade to a Z28 all you have to do is swap the parts!

you can save up and buy a tranny and engine combo w/ low miles on it, lt1 or ls1. after you buy that, i've heard of people swapping things like that in for 400-800. but that's just because i personally, could never get rid of my camaro...
but until you save up to do something like that, i recommend you get the problems fixed, and take care of your car, regular maintanence goes a long way. i know a guy who has an iroc-z that didn't give out on him until 312,000. you can always get your engine to last a long time.

you are in a bit of bind here, now arent ya. my advice would be to save up for a different vehicle. i dont know what the current mechanical status of your car is, but if it is in good shape keep it in good shape with regular maintainance and lots of love. she'll last you a while longer if you take care of her. when you have enough money, trader it in and get what you want. also, if it craps out down the road, and you have saved up enough money, you can always just buy a engine/tranny and put in new stuff and its like having a brand new car...

Do what you want to do, not what someone else wants you to do. Let them give you all the advice they wanna then make your decision from there. ppl tell me i should just sell my RS and buy something that's already fast, but wheres the fun and personal satisfaction in that?

well, it depends on how emotionally envolved you are with the car. if you can remember back to my black RS that got totalled, i chose to keep her and try to fix her rather than let her go to the salvage yard. couple hundred bucks and few hundred headaches later, i just got the front end put back together, both fenders, all the body work done, new nose new hood, also pulled the driver side door, gutted everything out and swapped it into a new door that was painted to match, put it all back together, adjusted it, and im almost ready to put her back on the road. ive worked on her in the blazing heat, freezing cold, and pouring rain, in spider webs, smashed fingers, and thrown, and lost tools in the yard. but ya know, when its all over, and i can look at her and she looks the same as she did before, and i can sell her to a good kid who will fall in love with her the way i did, rather than just let the insurance take her to the crusher, it will all be worth it. no question. and the few extra grand in my pocket from the sale wont hurt either ;) at least thats how i look at the situation. a camaro, even a base level sixer, is still a good car, and id rather fix her and sell her to someone as a starter, rather than see her scrapped in the junkyard.
