May I ask why before you get too caught up in this project? If it's for a better aftermarket, consider that with the money it will take you to rewire the car, reprogram the computer, custom fit the transmission/engine into the car etc. etc. you could make yourself a very nice custom forced induction setup.

well basically its for my friend he has a 2000 taurus and i have a 97 eclipse gst and he wants an eclipse engine or a sho engine he just wants it to be faster which would be the best way to go a new engine or doing stuff to the taurus engine

Mike,
I agree with deadlight, you can really get into an expensive mess doing something like this. Most jobs like this turn out unsatisfactory and is too late to backtrack. Would be much better off to shop for a used Duratec - and I believe you will find that quite a task.

Go Duratec, don't go Mitsu V-6, and don't go with the SHO 3.4 V-8. Reason being for the SHO V-8 swap being a no go? 19,500 *give or take* V-8 SHO's were built, and 20,000 engines. With the cam failure issues surrounding the V-8 engines, all the spares have been used up to date and prices have gone through the roof. Also, you have a 97 Eclipse, what does your 4 cyl. have to do with him wanting a Mitsu 6?
