Hi I have a 85' GT w/ stock v6 and auto trans. I was wondering if their were any good ways to get the hp up to about 200+. I have heard that engine swaps in automatic trans' arn't too wise. So I guess I am looking into turbo/super chargers, ram air, etc. Any tips? I am willing to do an engine swap but it will depend on the cost/time/gains in hp/ and compatibility of car. Any suggestions on what I should do, I woudl like to take this to the dragstrip and beat some rice burners.

It is not easy to get 200HP out of the stock Fiero V6 that is 19 years old. Engine swaps are endless. I had a 3.4L crate engine and a 440T autommatic put into my 88GT. It makes for a good highway cruising machine. Not a dragster.
The nicest swap is a 3800SC engine, usually tied to a t460 (hydraulic) automatic or 460E (electronic auto). These put out 240-260 HP depending on year engine. If done by an experienced mechanic using a nearly new engine transmission, you are looking at up to $7K.
You could get a Northstar V8 with the 460E auto and get quarter mile runs in the 11-12 second range.
You can get a SBC V8 such as a ZZ4 355HP from www.v8archie.com or other engine. But HP & Fast and cheap don't mix.
So if you have $10-12 K to spend, you can get almost anything you want. :2cents:

I haven't done it with EFI and straight valve iron heads. I can get 250hp out of a 2.8 block with splayed valve aluminum heads & carbs, though. If you're interested enough I can list the whole setup. It's quite the small novel to explain lol.
