Hello everyone. I have a 98 C-1500. Sometimes when I'm making a right turn, say like a on ramp(does this on long gradual turns) the wheel will suddenly get loose. Almost like the front tires lost grip on the road. What could this be?

The 98's have an EVO steering system on them, it makes it easier to turn the steering wheel at low speeds. If you do a search of this website for EVO you should be able to find some help

I have a 97 C-1500 and had the same problem with my steering. There is an electrical variable orfice on the output of the power steering pump that adjusts the "artificial feel" (aircraft term) for the steering. It is this valve that is acting weird and giving you the screwy steering. Its input is from a sensor in the steering column and the trucks computer. I experimented one day, and since I have a OBDII code reader I tried unplugging the valve on the pump, test drove my truck and waited for a MIL light. Never got a light and the truck drove just fine. The steering is a little lighter but is a lot safer than the changing artificial feel that there was before. 30000 miles later and it still runs great. Just slide under the truck, unplug the valve, (the wiring runs just behind the harmonic dampner where another plug plugs into the crankshaft sensor) and tie up the loose wiring.
