Is there a way to knock out the fake vents in the 93-97 hood and actually work with a gain of horsepower?

I was thinking about that, but i dunno. Since they're in the back and our intake is in the front. I don't think the openings are really big enough to do anything, even if you can fab something up.

you have to get a new hood and a ram air system

then you might have to vut out those small holes, and make your own custom ram air kit, then it might work

to get to the vents, you have to remove the fire retardant under the hood, and they unbolt. the best thing that would happen from opening up the scoops is that it would allow colder air to flow on to the intake manifold. it wouldnt give you a ram air effect or anything, but it might give you slightly cooler intake temps.
i had been thinking of this for quite a while, but i dont think that it is very practical. you wouldnt get much air flow into the vents because of their position and size. they are mostly for looks, i wouldnt give it a second thought...

wont see any performance gain, but might keep underhood temps a little lower. If you drive in the rain a lot of water will be pushed in there.....

you could install some type of flaps or doors that open from the wind when the car is moving.

some of them have screens in the scoop to help keep rain and debris out. scoops for intercoolers (on WRX and RX-7 etc.) arent affected by water. they are open and the water can just get into the scoop, wont hurt anything cause its an intercooler. most scoops are open though and are designed so that water wont get into the intake, and the little bit that does gets taken care of by the filter...
