Orange peel problem! Why?

OK, I've sprayed my last 3 models with Tamiya spray cans, all of them Revell models. The first one i did i used TS-19 (metallic blue) and then a clear coat. Both went on with no orange peel. Then i used TS-14 (black) on a diferent model and it went on fine. No orange peel. Then for my last model i used TS-31 (orange, lol) and it had an orange peel effect all over. I used the same method for all 3 and they are all made by the same company, so i assume the plastic is made in the same way, and all the paints are made by the same company. Why is this happening?
Anyone else had the same problem?

it is simple it has just dried to quick, maybe you sprayed from a bit to far, or you were in open or the can was not warm enough, or you didn't shake it well or you applied it to heavy there is like milion reasons, but it can be fixed for sure, I belive you can do it, a bit more work but you will be pleased.

Anyway i am not going any further until i have sorted it. I am going to sand it smooth and then spray on some clear gloss. Hopefully that will work. I just need to sand it enough to remove the orange peel but without taking any of the actual colour off.

Then, watch out for the edges !!!

If you clear coat it... be sure to have the problem solve or you'll have an orange peel clear... pretty ugly !

Yeah, i need to be very careful. I really want to do a good job on this one. I got some plans that are a bit experimental so it would be nice if it turned out well.
What's the best way to apply the clear coat? I'll be using Tamiya clear spray can.

Same as the paint...........keep the can warm, spray evenly about three or four coats.

Question for those that use clearcoat


Do you still compound the paint , get a shine and then spray clearcoat?
If so does it have a problem adhereing to the paint?

Or do you not compound at all, spray the clearcoat and then compound the clear?

I paint... then paint again...
After that, depending on the result... if it's OK the first time why bother ?? No compound, no wax, no sanding. But if it's not OK...
Sanding and compound.
Clearcoat mist... then again with a wet or two.
Then again... if it's OK don't touch if not:
Sanding and compound.

Ps... sometime it's just sanding between coat... not always compounding.
