Tweeter removal

Okay, so like my passenger tweeter is stupid and blew out (I think) so whenever I am bumping my music, it's all scratchy and stuff. So since I don't have money right now to replace it, I was just gonna remove it for now and not have it connected/on. Does anyone know how I can take it apart? How much would new tweeters cost? Thanks.

anthing to do with the dash means the whole dash has to come down as far as im aware and
its a tedious task to do it, my air vents are broken but they can stay that way!!

nope, the tweeters just push in, so to take them out by putting a small screw driver to their edge and pry them out, they will pop right out. The problem you will run into is that your door speaker and dash speaker are in series and when you disconnect your dash speaker the door speaker on that side is going to stop working.
Also, I removed just about everything from my dash without taking it out. The dash vents you can just break up and pull/pry out, and the new ones should just snap in place.

Okay, so I took out the tweeter and opened it up but there's no cracks in it. Shouldn't something be torn if the tweeter is blown?
talskinyguy, are you sure the speaker door is supposed to stop working without the tweeter? Because mine is still working....the thing is, it doesn't seem to be as loud as usual so I don't know if that's really the case or I'm just freaking out about it!?!

I've had this problem in both my tweets, I reccomend puting the good one on the drivers side and putting the busted one on the passenger side and disconected. There was a thread I started a while ago when this happened to me, it's got a link to some good tweets made by JBL.

Thourun, when you disconnected the tweeter, did your speaker on the side door still work? It does, right? Hehe
It sounds horrible without the tweeter so I may just leave it on. It's usually okay unless if I turn the volume really loud. But if it's blown then isn't it supposed to be scratchy regardless of whether the volume is turned up really high or not? ;o/

When I took apart mine the plastic rings were cracked in a few places, superglue didn't help. I don't know if the door speakers worked before but now they don't.... Hrmmm I'll have to check that out. In any case the side ones have been realy quiet or have not been working since I bought the car.

I tested the tweeter series in my 99 3000gt sl before i sold it cuzz one tweeter sounded like ass so i was gonna disconnect the one and so i could run the music better...well, the door speaker then sounded like ass...samething happened when done to the other side. So i said forget it and just kept the tweets hooked up. They seem to blow easy cuzz one of my 98 vr4 tweeters seem blown as well...i think upgrading with the jbls would be a wise choice.

When I took my door speaker out the dash ones stopped working, so i assumed they were in series, maybe there is just a crossover in there that requires both speakers to work properly.
For the dash vents, I looked in the service manual I have, looks like I got an early one. Sorry about that.

Okay, this stupid blown tweeter is really beginning to bug me now. I wanna get some new ones...but how do I know what size the tweeters are? Also, will it be hard to install? I don't want to spend a fortune but I don't want some crappy tweeters either. Any advice on which ones to get? Thanks guys.

Dude they're easy as all hell to take out, just get a flat head under it and pry a little and it lifts right up, nothing to unscrew. As for what to get I was told JBLs are the best, do a search with the words tweeter and JBL in it and you'll find the thread with all the info from when I had this problem.

Yeah, I could take it out and everything....but I just don't know if when I'm replacing it with aftermarket tweeters if the install will be any different. Seeing that it'll be a different company/brand and all. :o/ What size are our tweeters?

Something around that range, maybe 2.75 or 3 or 2.25, I'l find them, seems like JBL dosent make them anymroe thay don't list them on the site.
Edit: damn these things are hard to find, apparently they're not made anymore.... Anyone know of some other good 2.5 inch tweeters/midrange for a good price?

I could be wrong but I think only the premium sound cars got speakers in the dash.
EDIT: that is for the 1st gens, pretty sure all the 2nd gens have a dash speaker. Does anyone here have a 1st gen without the infinity sound package and a dash speaker?
