Ive got a 97 GS-t and my check engine light started turning on every once is a while. I have oil pressure all the time and it dosent start getting hot so the next time it came on I brought it over to my mechanic buddy. He pluged it into the computer and it says that one of my oxygen sensor heaters are bad. Now I know what an oxygen sensor is but can anybody tell me what the heater is. Oh yeah, when the light turns on I start getting really bad fuel mileage like when an o2 sensor is bad.

dude thats probably your IAT Intake Air Temperature sensor. Those are the ones they trick with a resistor from e-bay said to give you hp. The gas milage probably means its that since its reading it wrong your car is pumping more fuel. So yeah thats the one thats on your intake manfold its in the middle toward the firewall side.

What the hell are you talking about? If the code said o2 sensor, it's the o2 sensor... not the IAT sensor.
I wasn't aware that our o2 sensors were heated... but I don't think there's much repairing to do on an o2 sensor. I say replace it.

lmao @ joe
yes the O2 sensors have heaters... they are not needed and will not cause any effect on your car~ although if you are having different gas milage then i would say your whole O2 sensor is bad... you probably need a new one and that would be my suggestion, just replace it! the first one is in the engine bay on the exhaust O2 housing coming off the turbo, the second one is under the center of the car right after the cat! good luck...

ok first thing, dont go giving false info, second thing for the record if anyone else researches and finds this the IAT (intake air temp) sensor is in the MAS (mass air flow) sensor on the GST... not on the manifold!

oxygen = O2 if you didnt know!
