I was just reading motor Trend and i read that Ford is making a 6.2 liter that would launch in the F seris trucks. the 6.2 could then find a home in the crown vic, grand marquis, or towncar.and perhaps the mustang. they dont know if they would build a over head cam or a pushrod version. there would be a cylinder deactivation on the pushrod.

Dream on. Due to "fear of litigation" (which means Ford is afraid of being sued) Ford will not be installing larger engines in the Crown Victoria in the forseeable future.
The latest word is they will be going out of production in 3-5 years as fuel costs and lawsuits over exploding gas tanks increase.
The overhead cam engine(4.6 and 5.4) is now using variable cam timing to overcome poor port design and tiny valves.
The only way Ford is going to be a Hemi beater is if Chrysler discontinues production of them, which will take place in 2-4 years, anyway. Manufacturers are getting real jumpy over building cars and trucks that are getting their customers killed or maimed.
Expect to see fewer and fewer High Performance this or that, twin-cam, turbo, whatever do-dads.
In the industry, right now, there is a severe shortage of qualified technicians. If this trend continues, there won't be anybody to service or repair your "factory race cars" much less change the oil and check the tire pressure.

Does that include the rice rockets? I doubt it, the same thing happened in the early 70's, hi-perf cars started comming out of Detroit and the insurance industry is the on that shut it down. They were charging high premiums even for family station wagons with big motors. Ford still believes that what wins on Sunday, sell all week long. That may be your opinion about the demise of all hi-perf cars, but I doubt you are right. P.D.'s will always need a fast car, and with the advent of black boxes on most new cars, the industry will be eliminated from litigation. When the black box says that the cars was going 90 in a 30mph zone, the attorneys will have to come up with some other way to make the manufacturer liable.
I see it now, when you purchase your new car, you will sign a release of liability to the manufacturers if you exceed the cars capability. That is what is more likely to happen.
I just received a letter from Ford about my Expedition, the want to make sure that MY mechanic, knows howw to check the ball joints when they become worn and need replacement. That is what is known a CYA letter, they know there is a problem, and they are now putting the responsibility in your lap, if they break and fall off, and you have an accident.

I don't think the CVs will disappear completely; despite the price of fossil fuels there are still those (like me) that are die-hard gas gussler fans. These vehicles will be around for longer then 3-5 years, just not necessarily in their current form.
They will still be purchased via fleet, even if they are completely removed from the retail market, because they make great cabs and rental cars for their power and ease of driving around the city, and their comfort and ride capabilities are hard to beat on the highway.
I doubt we've seen the end of the CV. After all, the Lincoln Town Car isn't going anywhere yet, and not everyone that wants a full-size sedan can afford it!

True, Landyacht. But remember what happened to the Checker Marathon. It was an excellent taxi, but refused to change with the times. They went out of business, were bought and sold many times and eventually resurfaced with a mostly GM chassis and a Chevy engine, made in Canada.
That presents an amusing sight: a Crown Victoria with an LS-1 Chevy engine and transmission.
Gotta admit, it would be fast!

A note to Radioman2002: You said that "Ford still believes that what wins on sunday, sells all week long" Only problem is: Where can you or I get a fake four-door sedan, with a tube chassis, powered by an obsolete, carburated, pushrod truck engine?
NASCAR has gotten WAY out of hand. The "formula" they're imposing on manufacturers is just getting stupid.
Let Ford run their "cammers" and Chrysler run their "hemis". GM will still beat them at their own game.

If this is truly their motivation, then why is there a 4V engine in teh Marauder, and a blower on a Mustang Cobra?
It comes down to profit. Because the Marauder was not a better seller, they will hesitate to make another similar model. Unless customers are willing to pay a premium price for a premium product, it will not happen.

4V = 4 Valve per cylinder vs the common 2V 4.6L found in most Fords.
4V also has 4 overhead cams
2V has 2 overhead cams.

One thing everybody seems to have forgotten....
The RPM range that most automotive engines operate in, along with the torque they are required to produce, make multiple valve heads a waste of money and unnessesary complexity.
This year, Ford went to variable valve timing, to help deal with poor breathing and low torque on some of their truck engines. Gee, I wonder if four valves per cylinder would help drag Grandpa's fifth wheel around? Probably not..
GM is still getting plenty of power and torque WITHOUT overhead cams and multiple valves per cylinder. Do they know something Ford doesn't?

Yep.......you hit it right on the head.
With a 5.3L engine, GM has Ford beat with 335 ft/lb of torque and 2 valves per cylinder.
Ford was crazy when they went and got 350ft/lb of torque with 2 valves and 365 ft lbs with 3 valves per cylinder with their 5.4L motor.
Yep....less torque is better. What is Ford thinking by making more torque? More torque makes it harder for Grandpa to tow his 5th wheel around.
Wait a second..........................what was your point again? :)
