insurance depends on the company, state, age, driving record, etc, and whether you want full/liability/comp, so you have to get that quote yourself.

Just call insurance co's for a quote, theyll give you one. I would talk to parents/friends first so you kinda know what to ask them on the phone for a more accurate quote, and shop around because there is alot of competition out there for insurance and there is a huge difference if price. The katana is a good first bike, my friend started with a 98 katana and 1 yr later traded it in twords a 04 600rr.

Being you didn't know bikes are the best bang for the buck till your friend told you I will answer this way.
HP = more than enough
1/4 mile = faster than you should do it.
0-60 = you should worry about getting from 60-0
But, yes I have heard those can be good starters.
