No contest really. As Dave correctly notes, American football players are a bunch of pansies next to rugby players.

Yeah, I've had this discussion with an Austrailian buddy before. NFL players hit a lot harder than rugby players. There would be way too many deaths for them not to wear helmets. And for stopping every so often, football is a lot more strategic than guys pitching around a ball and running all different direction and shit. Let's just say, football is a more REFINED rugby. A much BETTER rugby! :flipa:

Ever seen Mike Catt trying to tackle Jonah Lomu in the 1995 RWC Semi final? Try telling me that those Rugby playing Bastards don't hit hard (Or in this case Counter a hard hit with an even harder one).
I also like Rugby's pitch and go nature, makes the game easier to watch.
So there :p

No, Rugby League is a much more defined and tactical rugby. In football, they hit a lot harder because of the armour, the rules allow for it. I've seen some pretty hard hits in rugby too.
Anyways, the men are harder. Buck Shelford for one. Gets a testicle ripped out by a stray boot in a game, and carries on playing to the end.
BRING BACK BUCK!

I like both American football, and rugby. But to say rugby players run around aimlessly is like me saying a QB is just throwing the ball around randomly. Rugby is a more flowing game, that doesnt mean tactics arent involved.
Oh, and you'd really have to have seen Lomu in action to comprehend the destruction he was capable of :evillol:

haha this started out as a great gif sharing moment and turned into a America vs the world debate...i think rugby players are nuts, but from the small amount of rugby iv seen on tv it looked like there was a lot of group tackling..people hugging each other then falling down..they also didnt look that big..everyone looked to be the same size just about..i wonder how they would size up to some NFL linebackers?

Props are normally about 115-130 Kg at Proffesional level (And they are the biggest on the field, normally). Jonah Lomu (A wing) weighed 121 Kg and could run like no other- the impact of him hitting you would be harder than any NFL player. But then he got a Kidney disorder and probably doesn't weigh that any more.... Or is that fast for that matter.

"convert kg to lbs"
and google popped up with this
1 kilogram = 2.20462262 pounds
hehe thats awesome. So that means this dude only weighed 271.17. Well I guess thats a little bigger than a line backer but smaller than a lineman.
EDIT:
Someone needs to post a GIF of a rugby tackle!

I was looking for a gif of the famous Lomu stampede, couldnt find one.
Here's a pic, doesnt really do justice to how he trampled all over this guy :evillol:
http://www.lequipe.fr/Xml/Rugby/Dossiers/Media/cm_1995_lomu.jpg
Jonah Lomu v England 1995
No England fan will ever forget towering All Black winger Jonah Lomu and the damage he did to Will Carling's men in their World Cup semi-final.
Lomu had caught the eye during the pool stages with his explosive running, using his powerful 19-stone 6ft 4in frame to blast holes through disbelieving defences.
But the 1995 player of the tournament saved his best for England, ripping through the white shirts with contemptuous ease in a stunning display which prompted Carling to subsequently label the young New Zealander a ``freak''.
Mike Catt and Tony Underwood would certainly not disagree with that assessment after both players were given short shrift by the rampant winger - Underwood, his opposite number, was given a particularly hard time and must still regret his attempts to taunt Lomu by winking at him during the Haka.
His scoring spree made him the first All Black since 1905 to score four tries in a Test match against England and he went on to become the youngest player in the world to score 10 Test match tries.
At the time he was the youngest-ever New Zealander to represent his country - a remarkable achievement from a player who will always command a place in World Cup folklore.

first of werd to yogs hockey is the shit.
second i have played both american football and rugby. rugby not much mind you. but rugby is the better game.
football is slow and isn't really all that techincal. just seems that way because of all useless plays in the over sized playbook. the plays don't ever pan out and the pace is always broken by the play calling. you can never find a good consistant rythme.
rugby is faster but painful trust me on this. my back still isn't the same. it is like hockey all the plays are called on the fly.
and again hockey owns all and dare anyone to find a faster, more brutal game.

Well, im not 100 % sure what position im gonna play on the OL, but im guessing, left guard! We already have two huge good ass tackles, but one of them wants me to be their left hand man, but nah I like playing as a guard, and besise im the fastest lineman in our school, so I have some speed when im suppose to pull :D But usually, I love playing on D, theres non better than D! And yes, the season of football is coming back!!!! YAYA!!! and who ever doesn't like football, than im guessing you never went out for the team, did ya?
