Hi everyone!
I'm new here. I really know nothing about cars, so I won't be able to contribute much. But I'm hoping you can help me find answers to some questions.
My son has a 2001 Ford Mercury Cougar, V6 Engine. His alternator needs replacing. I'm just curious...how complicated is it to remove and replace an alternator from this car?
Thanks! I appreciate your help.

Its kind of a pain in the butt. Its pretty crammed in there. Youll have to remove the passenger side slash shield thats located directly in front of the crank dampener. After that, if i remember correctly, theres 2 bolts that hold the alternator onto a heavy duty support bracket and one bolt that holds the alternator into the block. However, this is on a 3.0L duratec so, yours might be slightly different with bolt locations, etc. As long as you have the right tooss, its not too bad.

You will absolutely need the right tools AND someone who knows what they are doing. My father-in-law(mechanic) and I replaced mine on a '99 cougar and it took us almost all day.
