i like, how did you make them red like that?

DaMoNe6969
08-16-2004, 09:17 PM
I took my original gauge faces off, brought em to Sharp AutoTrim and got them to copy them onto decal paper and change the colors to whatever I decided..
Then I got a sheet of 1mm clear plastic, traced my gauge face shapes out on it and cut them out, Then I cut out the decals and stuck em' on the plastic and put them in in place of my original faces..

Although it was much much more difficult!

I could imagine. Thats probably why ricers are so proud of their stickers, because they are actually straight, as if anyone cared. :lol2:

lol no I wasnt making fun of you. I was dawgin on ricers. How they are all proud of their damn stickers, I know its a bitch to put them on if they do it themselves which I highly doubt. But it is something to be proud of if you do it. But Stickers are gay so their proud of, well, nothing special. You my friend should be proud of your project though.

although i DO drive a toyota (my supra is NOT a ricer).. I share your hatred for decals! But it was my only option short of air brushing (LOTSA $$$) and you' never tell it was a decal..

Chevyracincamaro

when will we learn, sledging doesnt solve anything, it just leads to more sledging *tear*...

Now I really hope that Supra didn't get sledged and you're playing it off as an accident...

yeah we got a little off topic on this one...

89IROC&RS
08-20-2004, 05:44 PM
damn sweet man, i thought about doin that to my ol RS cuz its black and red, with the red on the interior, but i never went all the way through with it. very nicely executed if i may say so.

DaMoNe6969
08-21-2004, 01:23 AM
thanx..

It was a BIG PITA though.. If your thinkin about doin it.. Heres all the problems I encountered...

first - getting the gauge decal cut out perfectly and laying it down on the plastic in perfect position, than getting it to line up the same as the old ones

second- The clear plastic I used was too thick.. my cluster wouldnt re-assemble properly and the needles were pressed tight against the gauge so they wouldnt move..

third - got thin (1mm) plastic and new gauge sheet.. Put them all in, looked good until night time when the lights were on... The light come through everywhere so you could see the shadows from the gauge motors and everything else behind the cluster.. the red also looked like a brown/orange with the light coming through.. I went back to Sharp Auto trim and we come up with a solution.. Instead of just making the decal red with white lettering, first they made the gauges black, then put the red over top.. then the gauges were brown.. no good.. So they tried black, than white, Than the red.. Still looked like shit..

FINALLY.. They printed the decals with red, than over them with red 2 more times... This solved that problem.. But by then my gauges were apart for so long I forgot where all the needles were when I took them off, and had to start the car a couple times without the cluster.. so ALL of my gauges were completly inaccurate..

BUt in the end I do agree they do look nice and are Definatly one of a kind..

So there are a few tips if your interested..

lol, well not any time soon, but perhaps in the future, although i do have the earlier guage cluster, so i dunno if it would work, but ill have to investigate that.
