Hi,
Just got a used 92 Lesabre 118000km
Service engine light comes on after about 5 min driving
&/or up hills
ALDL Reads code 41 ( cam sensor or MEM-CAL/ECM)
I washed the motor, changed oil, and reset the Change engine oil sensor
The light was off for about 1-2 days
Not sure if I jostled a sensor when I washed it or if the Change Oil Reset
helped
I removed the connector off the cam sensor and cleaned it
Removed neg. batt cable to reset code
It's on most always now.
Would changing plugs & wires help
Is the cam sensor replaicable without removing timing chain cover\
Do the cam sensor leads trace to the coil arrangement
Also..The wife has experianced a jerking stall (kept driving though)twice in 2 weeks
once while parking and once doing about 40km/hr
Of course it never does it when I'm driving
reading posts in this forum suggest possible torque convertor lock-up
bad motor mounts, I'm hoping not timing chain(never had jerks when toyota's timing chain went)
Or heres hoping its just a bad ECM or chip
Any suggestions or answers, anyone experiance similar

It's more likely the crankshaft sensor. There are many threads with similar problems and the crank sensor wound up being the cause.

I doubt it's the crank sensor. Symptoms for a bad crank would set a code 17. The car would crank but not fire. The cam sensor is behind the harmonic balancer and is fairly easy to replace. Just make sure you have a puller and a very long breaker bar.

I replaced the camsensor $50
Imediately service engine light went away
Thats the sensor on the outside of the timing chain cover
remove the splash gaurd to see better and undo 1 bolt
but then...see my next post...
92-wet road fun now tach
