GSR Tranny vs. LS Tranny

I have a JDM b16 Hydraulic tranny from a GSR and a regular LS 5speed. Which is a better transmission? I mean, I know everyone is going to say that the GSR tranny is, but is it better for drag racing applications? I don't think it has LSD. What is so good about the GSR tranny vs my regular LS 5speed?

GSR tranny by far. The LS tranny has high gearing so its' good for highway driving, but for drag racing you'll want the gsr. This may be a bad example but this how I think of it...I have a CX with super high gears so when I'm driving on the highway I can be in 3rd gear at 65mph and only be at around 3200rpms. So with a shorter geared tranny I'd be at 65mph a lot sooner than having to take so long to climb up the gear, but I'd also be in at least 4th gear with a different tranny. So with a gsr tranny you'll accellerate a lot quicker than with an LS tranny.

If you go turbo and have a need for longer gear ratios, then you can go with the LS transmission, or you can mix-match gears if you think you can make a better racing tranny than Honda.

ls tranny is not better in anyway for drag racing. the only thing the ls tranny is good for is highway driving.

you wont top out a gsr tranny in the quarter so dont worry about it. only unless your running 10s on 20 inch slicks and are shifting at 5k. of course these are not exact numbers

It's not that you'll top out a GSR tranny, on a turbo cars, having shorter gears does'nt always make a car faster. You have to drive a turbo car to realize what I'm talking about. And yes, LS is better for highway, lower RPM, more relaxed, better MPG.

ive driven a turboed gsr hatch, felt fast to me. the only thing i can think of that would make the car slower is the fact that the gears are shorter so it would be alittle easier to spin the tires so maybe with a gsr trans you wont be able to get traction vs a long slow ls tran that wont break traction. but if thats what yoru talking about, he asked for drag racing application, if your drag racing your on slicks so you wouldnt have to worry about traction

I have been hearing so many mixed feelings about this tranny. I want to put the tranny in my car because it is a JDM b16 hyrdo tranny and it is MINT, like under 3000k on it. I also have a lightend flywheel and stage III clutch I would put on it. I think I am just going to put it on. thanks for your info guys!

the b16 is a fine tranny, the only thing that sucks about it is the highway driving, proably around 4k at 65.

but for drag racing the b16 is a fine tranny, and you probably wont be able to top out a b16 tranny either with big slicks and a higher shift point. lot of 10sec racer use b16 trannys without topping them out
