97' Camry Cruise Control Problem

I've been trying to work on my girlfriends car to get her cruise to work. Right now it work intermitently. The cruise light will always go on and I checked to conection on the cruise control actuator it seems to be fine. Before I start trying to trace the problem into the column I need a second opinion. I am lead to assume the problem isn't electrical. I think there must be a mechanical switch on the lever and I'm guessing it must be that. If anyone has an opinion please tell me. Thanks.

I had an erratic problem with the cruise control. I checked everyhing in the actuator box and I could not find much. Finally, just by accident, I touched very lightly the brake pedal while the cruise control was activated and the cruise control went off. I adjusted the brake light switch located on the upper part of the brake pedal. I just moved about a mm towards the engine. That solve the cruise control problem. I gess the contact was wearing out and was not doing was it was suppose to be doing. Hope your problem is that simple also.

Thanks burchard I'll have to check that. Perhaps the contact is grounding it out.
