I'm just cruising along and the car will jerk and the speed doesn't change but the RPMs either drop or spike. No lights come on - nothing else changes... And it doesnt matter if i am going 40 or 80.
Does anyone have ANY idea what it COULD be????
As usual, it doesn't do it when the technition test drives it at the dealership : (

Mine was having symptoms similar to that when I first bought it. It was used with just over 100k on it and very little service history. The first thing that I did was to get a full tranny service with flush and new filter. Has competely solved the issue. Something having to do with the valves. I'm no mechanic, so if someone would elaborate, that would be nice.

It cost me almost 300 bucks because they need to drop the sway bar to get the pan off. I know....I probably got screwed. After looking under there, it didn't look like 2.7 hours would've been needed to do it. If you have a jack and stands, you should be able to do it yourself.

It only seems to do the misfiring on long trips. And it doesn't always do it. The transmission was serviced with flush and all 9 yards, but it hasn't gone away.
Are there any other obvious possibilities?

Engine rpm spiking is not a misfire issue. Are you sure the engine is doing this or are you assuming your tachometer is not lying to you. It might be the tachometer connection or tachometer function.

I'm sure it's not just a tacho connection/reading problem.
The car actually feels like it "misfires" i.e. it kinda feels like it may be slipping out of gear a bit. It shutters...
I do agree with you though that it is not an issue with misfiring.
The problem is that the dealership cannot find anything wrong with it. I know there is, I just don't know where to look.
Very frustrating!
