Changing '93 tranny

My 93LE 2.2L I-4 has 198k miles,...
1. the tranny tries to drive in Park;
2. shifts fine up through the gears in D;
3. will not go into Neutral, drives forward in Neutral;
4. after running a few minutes & getting warm, holds the front wheels from rolling although in Neutral; after cooling down, the wheels free up and I can push it.

I've checked the cable/adjustment, and flushed/replaced the fluid, but no help.

I talked with a couple of local shops and they either want more money than the car is worth to replace the tranny, or they say that no one rebuilds these and they can help look for a replacement used from a junkyard.

I can do the work to swap it, but I need help understanding what range of year models will work. I read that '95 they upgraded to an electronic controlled, so I think at least a 93-94, but does anyone know if a 92 or earlier would also bolt up?

I tried finding books on rebuilding, but no luck. Anyone know of any, or am I wasting my time even trying?

Thanks for your help,
Joe

Thanks, I spent a bunch of time looking, but couldn't seem to find these kinds of books. I kept finding a manual with a description that said "Specifically does not cover disassembly/reassembly"...I guess it is more of printed version of the parts microfiche..?..

I've rebuilt a TH-350 from a Camaro, so I didn't think it could be much more difficult or different. Do you have any experience with cracking these open or recommendations?
Thanks for your time.

No, sorry, I stay away from big jobs. I don't have the time. One thing I know - Keep everything clean like silverware.
