I have a 2003 SR5 and am having trouble finding information about modifications to improve performance.
I have read that Amsoil Air filters are proven to be the best. On the older 4Runners they have modified the air box with great results (see link http://www.gadgetonline.com/airinduction.htm ) but is there a good way to modify the airbox on the 2003?? The air box is located directly over the engine. Wouldn't this just let a hot air in??
I would also like to add an indash DVD player with a flip up screen. Does anyone have instructions on how to remove the factory system. I have seen links but they don't work any longer. Also is it possible to put two single DIN units into the factory hole.
If anyone has any suggestions let me know!!!
Thanks.

The filter TRD sells is quite good also. AMSOIL filters are oil-wetted paper. The TRD filter is oil-wetted cotton. They are probably both good. I have the TRD filter and am very happy with it.

Now are the TRD filter reuseable or are they throw away filters?? That is one thing that I like about K&N filters is that they basically last forever but it has been noticed that they really don't filter that well. I would like to keep my engine as clean as possible.
I have the 2003 SR5 V6 model.

TRD filters are washable and reoilable. They sell a separate cleaning and oiling kit.

I think I will go with the TRD filters then. Thanks for your input and hlep.
Has anyone heard anything else about modifying the air box on 2003-04's? I would like to do some simple mods just to improve my performance and economy. Nothing crazy like turbo charger. I have a Nissan 300ZX for that.

I found that AFE makes the filter for TRD. Here is the filter for the 2002 4Runner:

I don't see a listing for the 2003 4Runner yet. You'll have to use the factory filter until they make one to fit the V6.
