97 Cutlass Whines as RPMS Rise

So lately the Cutlass has been whining... almost like a quiet supercharger. Unfortunately, that's not what the whine is. :smile:

I'm thinking I need to change the tranny fluid, but just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem? The whine starts as soon as you turn the car on... and then gets louder as the RPMs go up... and quieter as they come back down. :screwy:

Hi, Have you checked the power steering fluid? If it is low that can cause a whine that increases with engine speed. Does the sound change at low speed when you turn the steering wheel?

I have the same whine you are talking about but it is not the power steering because if i turn the wheel the noise does not get worse, and that usally happens when its the power steering pump. My car never did the whine noise until I had the trans reman. and at first it whined a little and they told me it was in the breakin period, after a really hard rain i was driving down a road that had lots of water on it and now the whine is a lot louder. Not sure what it is, but I would take it to a trans place and see what it is.
