What is the Best Fiero? Taking into consideration, speed, power, handling. Is there one that is better to fix up than another? Do the GT's just look different or is there more?

The 88 Fiero is the "best" of the stock Fieros with handling. Whether it is the coupe version or GT version. Your choice of styling preference. That being said, because of limited production of the 88 Fiero, some suspension parts are hard to come by and/or are expensive. As for performance you had two engine choices, 2.5 L four cylinder or 2.8 L V6. The four is a fun car to drive but lacks any performance. The V6 at 135-140HP is not the high performance engine of the cars of this century. It too is a fun car to drive. Since the newest Fiero is 16 years old, most, unless well maintained, the cars have high milage and need lots of work. The good news is that you can stick almost any GM engine into a Fiero and update its performance.
Your wallet is your limiting factor.
Any 1985 or newer Fiero is easier for an engine swap. Upgrades to suspension can be added to make the 85-87 handle almost as well as the 88. Again let your wallet be your guide.

The '88 GT is the heaviest Fiero that was made....due to the upgraded suspension and the GT rear end. The suspension is supposed to have a lot better handling...i haven't had the opportunity to try one...but i can tell you that parts for it are a lot more expensive. As far as performance goes don't waste your time with the 4 cylinder, unless you want to do a quad four swap, and make sure you get the manual transmission (4-speed in '85 and '86, 5-speed in '87 and '88). I'm not sure what the gearing specs are for them, but the 5-speed has an overdrive gear that is great on the highway. Other than that, it's pretty much personal preference.

That's right the 88 GT is the best of them all, the handling, the gas and the weight makes this car a little more safer than all the others. I drive mines everyday and I love it. And the speed is just crazy fast especially if it's well take care of. Maintenance is very expensive, though important if you want it to last another 16 years

Ummm..... Factory stock only, I'd say 88 GT with leather, lumbar seats and T-tops.
Otherwise the Pontiac dealer special ordered Conversion Concepts GT Convertible gets my vote. Sadly, both are rare, big dollar cars.
