duplicate keys ?

Hi All
i have a 98 and want to have duplicate keys made.
The normal places i use don't have the blanks.
I have seen blanks advertised on Ebay.
Is there something special about these keys ? do they have a transmitter in them ?

you need to call a dealership and see if the key your car needs would have a chip on it. If it does the key will need to be purchased (hopefully from e-bay) and brought to a locksmith to be cut. Make sure you trust the locksmith that will do it, you would hate to have him screw up a $15 key for a $3 copy.lol. if the car key has a chip it will need to be brought down to the dealership to get programmed. Hint, you may need to bring all the keys and remoted don with you to the dealership to get them all done together, old and new. i had this done once for my 2001 and the guy didn't charge me. but i guess if wanted to they could charge ya like 35 bucks or something. But call a dealership first to take any guess work out of it. Good luck.

There is a process to program the keys yourself if you have 2 active. The dealership only needs their box if you only have 1. There are several posts on this subject - the methods vary a little from year to year. For my 2003, the method was described in the owner's manual.

I might have to check my owners manual. My car is a 2001 galant es v6. It came with one key and one fob. I picked up an extra fob about 2 days after i locked my keys in the car. What an ordeal that was. Did i mention i locked em in with the engine running? Anyway, i went to the dealership i bought the car from and they programmed it for free. I think it had something to do with me purchasing the car the day they brought it on the lot. but i am goin to call the salesperson to see if he can hook me up with another free be.

I went to a professional lock shop and they checked my key, which turned out not to have a chip in it.
Two additional keys $7.20 total
the lock shop had a wand type of device which they waved over my key to check for an enbedded chip
