Olympiad disappointment...

Well if some of you are unaware, the team USA lost to Puerto Rico today in the first round of the olympic men's basketball. Well this is the first time that team USA loses a match since NBA players were allowd to play.
The loss comes to no surprise for me seeing as how they managed to lose 3 exhibition games and how they barely had any time to practice together. The only surprise was when and to whom they lost. No one thought that Puerto Rico can claim this victory of the USA in the first round. Goes to show that anybody is game for the Gold in basketball come olympics.

And the US lost the table tennis to NZ, too.
And you had Chinese playing for you, so you should have won!
Mind you, we did too :D

I would say so,
BTW, I was surprised that PR was considered a seperate country at the Olympics since PR is a commonwealth of the US and they vote for POTUS and are represented in Congress. Strange.

So is Virginia, Massachusetts, Kentucky, and Pennsylvania. Plus the PRs are American Citizens since 1917. Its been a self-governing island commonwealth of the US since 1952 and was in US hands since 1898.

I think the only way the Olympics can be good is by taking every athlete into the middle of a field and shooting them OR for example in the running, chase them with knives. If you catch them, you get to stab them to death.

Has anyone else heard the stories about the Canadian womans cyclist taking a silver and giving the judges the finger? I guess the cyclist is lesbian and the judges wouldnt let her lesbian lover compete in the cycling event. According the the radio she has been fined $160 but is still allowed to compete

Facts:
1. It was a German woman's cycling team cyclist
2. She was giving the German selectors the finger because they said she wouldn't be able to medal and did, as well as they excluded her training partner from the team.
3. She was fined for actions unbecoming of an athlete by the UCI, other than that she didn't do anything wrong.

I saw petra rossner at the Tour le Fleur in Jackson MS a few years back. She hit the hay bails lining the road at about 30 mph. I was so funny to see her try to climb out of the bails with her bike still attached to her feet :lol2:

"Bitterness and backbiting marred Australian Sara Carrigan's Olympic triumph on Sunday when silver medallist Judith Arndt was fined for giving a one-fingered salute in protest at the exclusion of her lover from the German team.
Arndt shocked spectators with the gesture as she crossed the finish line behind Carrigan in the Athens road race.
She then dominated the Australian's victory media conference with complaints about the way German officials had treated her lover, former Olympic champion Petra Rossner.
A furious Arndt complained that rather than winning a silver medal, Rossner's omission had cost Germany a gold medal.
"If Petra was there we would have raced differently, more aggressive," she said. "Petra is the best sprinter, and maybe we would have won gold," she told the news conference in which gold medallist Carrigan was able to field just a few questions.
The International Cycling Union took little time in slapping fine of Sfr200 ($225) on the angry runner-up.

Comments from the victorious Australian camp, however, supported Arndt's view that Rossner should have been selected.
"I'm glad she didn't get a ride," said women's road coach James Victor. "They would have been a bigger threat if she did.
"It [Rossner's omission] destabilised the Germans with a bit of friction there."
The 37-year-old Rossner, from Leipzig, won the 3000-metre individual pursuit on the track at Barcelona in 1992. She finished a disappointing 30th in the Olympic road race at Sydney in 2000 but bounced back to win the German national title in June.
German cycling officials had no immediate comment on whether they were likely to follow the cycling union and take action against Arndt."
