How Hard is Speaker Installation?

I want to buy alpine type s speakers (6.5) for the rear and the front of my parents 94 accord lx. But i asked around a few shops and installation is 50 for each set.. thats a rip off since i can BUY the speakers for 50 from ebay (from indo audio.. are they good?). Anyways.. will i be able to use the factory grilles so no one will know what speakers i have so i wont get jacked (especially parked in college all day). And is it really too hard to put them in myself? I dont want to mess up my parents car or anything but at the same time im not going to shell out 100 to get speakers installed. Do i need some harness or do they just plug in the way they are? Also in about a year i might have enough money for an integra, will it be hard to move the speakers from the accord to the integra? Any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

Simple installation for anyone. Do it yourself. And yes they can be moved to your teg with ease

save your money and install them yourself. It is easy to put in that acccord. You will need no special harness. And they can easily be moved to the Teg

do you have a diagram or something? Or can you walk me through it some time when i get the speakers? Im planning on maybe getting them this week. Has anyone bought from indo audio on ebay?

You just take off the grill (held on by clips and the tabs of the grill hold it on there), unscrew the speakers, and the wires are hooked on there with tabs on the speaker. Then to put the new ones in you just slip the wires onto the tabs (neg wire is one with the stripes of course) and screw the speaker on, and put the grill on bam you're done. I did both sides in 20 minutes with going back and forth into the house to get screwdrivers and such. It's honestly that easy, if I can do it anyone can trust me. Just start at the top of grill with a flathead and be careful so you don't bust a clip or break the tabs at the bottom that hold it there and you'll be fine. There's no wiring needed you just plug the wires onto the tabs and that's it. You may have to tilt the sepakers at an angle to line up the screw holes. And it'll be the same thing for the Teg.

so i dont need a wiring harness at all? Theres no cutting or slicing wires or anythingg??? Also, the Alpine type s speakers im getting is 6.5/6.75. Will i need to cut into the door pannel some more or something for it to fit?

You will not need any harness friend. You shouldnt need to cut either. You may have to put a spacer in between the speaker and the door.
otherwise the window wont roll down all of the way

You mean like this Spacer (http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.jsp?c=1&b=g&u=c&catoid=-11701&qp=0&oid=89600&m=0)
Doesnt that mean the speakers will pop out more fron the front? Will the factory grill still fit on it

What do you guys think about the PIONEER TS-A1670R? I can get 2 pairs shipped for like $80. I heard the depth is a problem though, and you will have to cut through the car or something?? They are 3-ways with like 30watts rms. Do you guys think they sound good or should i stick to alpine type s 2-ways and spend like 50 more on them..? keep in mind im running them off a panasonic deck shelling out 20rms..not going to use an external amp.

Yes you will need a spacer. An inch sshould cut it. It shouldnt affect anything. Go with the Type-S over the pioneer

I would suggest crutchfield... becuase they have these adapters that you plug in to factory wiring harness...
With taking the door off.. i did each in like 10 minutes..
I am too scared to mess with the grill.. since they are 80 dollars to replace (i dont know why)

Crutchfield is also twice the price lol. But i dont know if i should just upgrade the front or both the front and the back. Most people say the back is useless.
Also, has anyone ever bought from indo audio on ebay, or ike sound? Its around the same price shipped around $65 each pair. I dont want refurbrished or any crap like that.

I don't know how it is in accords but in my civic I did have to cut through a plastics "basket" that was behind the stock speakers so that the magnet would fit and allow flush mounting. But installation was easy even for me. Just take your time.

lol im a loser. I tried prying out the speaker grille with a screwdriver to see whats under it, and the factory speaker but i didnt really get the whole thing off because i didnt want to pry too hard and break the clips and the whole damn grille. Maybe if i knew exactly where the clips were, i could do it without breaking any.. but i dont lol. :-/ <-- Loser of the day. Can anyone help lol

lol nope thatll be even harder, more screws, power locks power windows all that crap. Just need to find out where the clips are and how not to break them, start at the bottom part of the grille first or the top.

the grill is very flexible so you shouldnt have a problem. all you have to worry about is puncturing the speaker cone when you use a screwdriver. Just pry it from the top, and when some of has come out, use your fingers to get the rest out. then you will have open access to the speaker.

Damn too bad I'm a little late... I have those Pioneers, and they are definently nice. They are pretty damn loud too, I was highly impressed. They fit in my '94 Civic with no clearence problem at all; slid in, screwed in, and all was done. Definently a good choice if you don't want to have to buy an amp to power speakers (because they're only 180 watts).

did the pioneers give good midbass or lows, i mean at least better then stock?
CivicSpoon
08-21-2004, 04:48 PM
Oh yeah definently better than stock. I only have 2 speakers in my car (because I have a CX hatch) and there's definently enough mid and bass to them. There could be a little more bass to them but it is only 2 speakers in there; so 4 may be a lot better. But I still wouldn't trade these speakers for any other (unless I got an amp to power some).

thanks i guess im going for the pioneers :-) You didnt need a spacer or anything? I heard they had a very deep installation..thats weird. Did u get to use your stock grilles?

Yeah I used the stock grill with plenty of room. I was worried at first because on the box the depth was more than Crutchfield or Best Buy's computer said would fit, but it was no problem at all plenty of room. And no need for a spacer either, my windows roll down fine. But I had to tilt the speakers a little to get the holes to line up for them to screw in, but that's no big deal.

Yo I got a 96 Accord as you can see in my sig. And I don't know how to take the rear speaker grilles off. Do I just take a screwdriver to them or what? Or was y'all talking about the rear speaker grille earlier? I'm not sure what speakers I'm going to get yet, but I know I'm getting them off Ebay, the only way to go :2cents:
