I have been searching for a new car for some time, and have thought about 200+ Sentras with the SR20 engines, Toyota Solaras (V6), Ford Focus (the 130-170 horsepower versions) even a new VW Jetta.

I have never thought about eclipses too much (2000+ generation)

So between these two cars which is my best bet?

2000 Civic EX Coupe (VTEC?)
Automatic  (I can always convert it to a stick)
Moonroof
Alloy wheels
47,000 miles
$11,866 - I won't pay full price

OR

2000 Mitisubishin Eclipse GT (V6)
Manumatic (Automaic With The Clucthless Stick)
Alloy Wheels
89,065 miles
$9,988 - I won't pay full price

Depends on how involved you want to get. If you're going to want to possible do a motor swap down the line then get the Civic. If you want a little more reliability get the Civic (i'm basing that on the stories my friend tells me who is a Mitsu technician but also owns a civic). But if you want off the line good stock horsepower then go with the Eclipse. But honestly if you're just going to change over the civic to manual anyways then don't bother buying the automatic, you're just going to pay far more for it (with the autos being more expensive to start with and then having to pay for parts to change it over). But it's your choice they are both great cars, I recommend test driving them both before making up your mind and then pick which one you like better.

Boy did I want an eclipse so bad and it was a nice price, but then I noticed that ALLLLLLLL of my friends that own an eclipse, have had their engines swapped out because their old engine breaking down. My friend had a hole in his block. My other friend's engine bearings were bad along with the rods. I have heard endless complaints about the eclipse. I have to admit though, my friends eclipse was pretty powerful (and it was only the BASE model, power nothing) but yea... it was powerful while it lasted.... lol...eclipses are faster but cannot take abuse (why the hell is that?)

Get the Eclipse, you will hate the Civic even if you pay 3k less than that price.

Eclipse:
a lot faster (200hp)
chicks will dig it
has a nicer interior

Civic:
slow (127hp)
a million of them on the road
budget interior

if you want preformence "out of the box" go with the eclipse

if you plan on having the car for more than 5 years go with the civic. and put some money in it
you should be able to push 220 hp with the right engine and parts for a 4-5 thousand more

why are there only 2 choices? for a 9k budget, you can get a much nicer project car that will be more reliable than the eclipse, and faster than the civic...

I think that spending about the same amount of $ for a car with twice as many miles is stupid, but the choice is yours. If I could work the eclipse owner down a few grand then i'd go for it, but only because i really dislike driving slow automatics.

either way, good luck

GO with the Civic for reliablilty i would never buy a 3rd gen eclipse they r slo 1st gens brake down alot but that is part of the DSM lifstyle the 1st gens offer most bang for buck the 2nd gens r slower than 1st gens but faster than 3rd gens plus they r the most reliable but then there is that thing called cw and they r lil more expensive to work on depends on what u want the car 4

well.. are you looking for a daily driver, or car to bust out some awsome track times? if your about the reliabily of a daily driver stick with the hondas. if you want a power house, and want to get your hands dirty go with a 99 or older Mits gst-gsx. i could go on and on about why, but its all upto you. i have a 96 gsx, its all upto your wants and needs.
