Hey,

I just got a 97 grand prix GT, and i noticed that the person never cleaned leaking battery acid off when they put in a new battery. I am pretty much a newb when it comes to this car since i used to own a buick century. What things must i move, disassemble in order to get the battery out? Can anybody give me a basic step by step so that i dont get killed.

Thanks

If it is anything like my 97 GTP you will need to remove the bolts/nuts holding the windshield washer fluid reservoir in place. Then lift it out and lay it on the strut mounting point. Next, disconnect the battery terminals, negative one first. Then the positive terminal. Once this is done remove the hold down bolt from the car and lift the battery out. Replace in the opposite way except put everything back before you reconnect the battery terminals. Once again connect the negative last. You will need to reprogram the radio and clock but other than that you should be good to go. Be careful not to short circuit the battery cables and you should have no problems with the removal and installation.

follow gtp dads advice, and use either coca cola, or a baking soda and water solution to remove the corrosion residue before re-installing the battery. rinse the tray out to eliminate a white residue from the baking soda or sticky mess from the coke, but both do a nice jobe of cleaning battery spill residue
