30K and spark plugs??

I just got my 30k done and from what i can tell the dealership (a hyundai
dealership) did everything, EXECPT the spark plugs, they said that they
did not need to be done, but from what i read they should be done!? I even
wrote on the drop off slip to replace the spark plugs if nessicary, and on
my receipt they printed out that the spark plugs do not need to be
changed. So am i safe under the warrenty or should i insist that they area
changed. Also I have been having a problem with my lights on the
spedometor, and they said that becasue i have an aftermarket raido they
cannot do anything and its not covered under warrenty.?!?! I had taken my
car to another dealership (dealership "B") for this problem and they said
it was covered (they had to order the parts) the reason i did not take it
back to dealership B was becasue they seems to be overcharging me and
adding things to there 30k plan that I do not need, and i wanted to get
everything done in one stop.
whats going on here?
i have a 2002 accent.

I'm no Hyundai tech/service person, but if you are paying for the service and the service includes changing the spark plugs then I believe that they should regardless if they need replacing or not. Now if they insist that they do not want to replace them, either take it to another dealership, complain to Hyundai Corp or get it in writing from the dealership that they feel it is not needed to replace the spark plugs. This way if anything does happen as a result ofthe spark plugs failing in the future they cannot void your warranty because they were not replaced at the scheduled service.

keep us posted on the outcome.

Well according to this dealership changing spark plugs is not needed for the 30k. I do have it in writing that my spark plugs did not need to be changed (on the receipt)

Does having older spark plugs affect gas milage? I do not know alot about cars...Also what type of plugs do i need to use to keep the warrenty valid? I will buy them myself and have a friend put them in if i need to

Take it anywhere but where you are going? Open your Owner's Manual that comes with the car. Tell the AAA service center or a BBB recommended place to maintain the car with the severe maintenance requirements table found in it. End of story. Save your receipts. Do not listen to the stealer. It is his job to lie and steal your money. No you don't need to change your plugs at 30,000 miles. As a matter of fact you never need to change them - or put gas in the car or even drive it. Tell the Stealer to also tell you about the feature where the car drives you from A to B by itself. I"m sure he'll come up with something. PS: Have you ever seen the movie "Cadillac Man" with Robin Williams. Great movie! An unlikely hero. Use NGK spark plugs for your Hyundai automobile and change every 30,000 miles. If you don't believe me than look in your Owner's Manual which is where you should be getting your info from. No need to thank me. :smokin:

You can also look up what is done and not done at the service interval.

See this thread (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=357365).

U got burned. the accent has 30k plugs. and yes they run best off of NGK's. But some hyundais dont need plugs at 30k and these are plugs that are either platnium or Iridium found in most V6's and few 4cyl. Sorry to hear of the bad service.

I replaced my Elantra's NGK's at 60K, according to the book, you should get plugs at 60K, i did the wires too just incase. When I replaced my plugs, i replaced them with Bosch platinum plugs, seems to run a little smoother now...

you are really not saving yourself any money by putting in $4 of bosch plugs. I have ran into alot of runnabilt problems because of bosch plaTNIUM PLUGS........BOSCH GOOD FOR EUROPEE-ON cars but that is it. pony up for the correct parts for your cars people.......

actually the bosch plugs were more expensive than what was listed as OEM and OEM wasn't in stock...seems to work beautifully though.

Hey Guys! I hope that you don't mind me dropping in! I have a 1994 cavalier rs with 2.2 liter 3 speed automatic 4 cyl. I've been using the autolite resister and i'm wondering if I switched to the nkg platinum, how much more gas mileage i'd gain. Fill me in if you have any ideas.
