At the most recent AZ-SERCA dyno/suspension day we were lucky enough to get our hands on a set of Cornerweighting scales. We were able to weigh our cars, and corner balance them, if we had the adjustments to do so. (see this thread for more explanation on this http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/t27251.html)
Anyways, the total weight of my car was 2695 w/o me in the car and 2850 w/ me in it. This is with everything in/on the car. The only thing i had changed was my flywheel (took a couple lbs off that) and i removed that dumb useless bar in front of the lower lip of the bumper (about 10lbs i'd guess). I was very suprised how light my car was. I don't have any factory options, no leather, sunroof, wing, foglights, etc... (just the basics). That is with the spare, jack, floormats, and some little stuff in the car too, so it's not stripped by any means. Another G20 that weighed in, weighed in at 2850 w/o driver. That's with a baby seat, sub box and some other stuff in the trunk, leather interior, moonroof, etc.. So there is some difference between P10s depending on the options. I think the majority was due to the sub box, and other stuff though, rather than just the options on the car.

Has anyone else weighed their car?

Stop at one of those weigh stations on the side of the freeway. (If they are open, most are closed) If your nice they will weigh you.

Be sure to record the amount of gas because that makes a big difference at 6 pounds per gallon.

Other places to go would be a landfill, rock quary (sp?), recycling center, etc... all these places should have scales too. And, with how little gas our cars hold, from empty to full, it's about 60lbs or so... not a huge difference. As long as you are within a 1/4 tank or so it's close enough... Just don't weigh your car empty, then say it was full of stuff... if you did that, I think we'd have to kill ya! :D

Aren't the gas tanks on Primeras 16 gallons? 6 pounds times 16 = 96 pounds. I usually drive with 5 gallons or less in the tank just because it seems more responsive than with the tank full. That's a difference of 66 pounds. Maybe it's all in my head :D

When my car says completely empty, a full fill up is no more than 12 gallons... I know i've never put in over 13 gallons, even once after the light came on and i had to drive around for a while like that, it was still under 12 and a half gallons of gas. full vs 1/4 tank i'd guess maybe 10 gallons or 55 to 60 lbs. Not a huge difference if you ask me. I think the biggest thing a full vs empty gas tank would do would be affect front to rear weight distribution (by a WHOPPING one pecent each way! 62/38 vs 61/39 :hehe:) That little bit of weight won't really affect acceleration hardly at all.

Then why weigh the car? I know my car weighs around 2700 or something. Weighting it is pointless unless your accurate and know what all your weighing (car, gas, gear, people). If you don't think a hundred pounds changes things how much does it take to change things?

I think that he was trying to communicate, that compared to the rest of the car 72 lbs of fuel isn't that much (2.7% to be exact).

Not even 72 lbs, that's what i'm getting at... 72 lbs would be completely dry to a completely full fuel system. I don't know anyone who runs their tank that low :D I was just saying, if you are close to where you gas was at, say at about 1/4 tank, or at about 1/2 tank, it's close enough for comparison purposes. the other G20 that weighed in, was 165lbs heavier than mine, that's with a sub box, baby seat, etc... but that's a BIG difference, that's not a couple gallons of gas difference. If you had a racecar and had to have it at a certain weight for hp/weight ratio or something like that, then yes, every drop of fuel is going to matter, but for a "just wondering what my car weighs" thing, it's not going to matter if you are off by a gallon or so. I wasn't getting at don't be accurate, i was more trying to get at, does 6-10lbs really matter on a 2700+lb vehicle, one gallon in my car, with me in it (2850lbs) equals about 0.2% change in total weight.. that's nothing. Now, in cornerweighting, or front/rear distribution, it will play a slightly bigger role (if it's clearly in one corner or side of the car), but unfortunately you can't find out the weight distribution on those drive up scales, only total weight.

Hey...off topic, but when does the fuel light come on in these cars? I had to go just below the E line for it to come on. I think the fuel sender is pretty pesemistic. :) The light comes on when two gallons are left, correct? That's how it is in my other car.

I know i've only gotten mine to come on once... and it was once i already hit the E and was driving around like that for another day or so.
It takes a VERY low tank to get the light to trip. I think i got well over 350 miles on that tank too (cause i let it go so low), IIRC, I filled up with about 12.5 gallons to a full tank after the light came on.

i always use to ride my tank till the light came on and then i would just get 5 dollars worth of gas.... i use to be a cheap ass ... but after i had an experence with my car not working cuase it didnt have any gas in it when it was real cold i will never do that again! now i dont go down farther than 1/4 of a tank

I've noticed that my light comes on around 2-3 gallons too.

So how far can you go went the light comes on? After owning the car 5 months I only saw it come on once and then I put 13 gallons in it.

If you suck the tank dry, how bad is it to get it to start agian? ie. does the battery have enough juice to turn the engine enough to get the new fuel up there.

How many fuel pumps are there and what kind are they? Belt driven or Electrical?

On most cars, there are areound two gallons left when the fuel light comes on. On a G20, you should have around 50 miles left when the light comes on (@ 25 mpg).

It's not hard for a Fuel Injected car to restart after running out of fuel; It'll just take some extra cranking. It's not good for the fuel system if you do this. One time won't hurt though.

Fuel pumps in fuel injected cars are electronic. The fuel pump is usually located in the gas tank. I don't know of any fuel injected cars with belt driven fuel pumps.

Yeah, our fuel pump is located right behind the center of the rear seat, sorta between the cabin and the trunk. They are a pain in the ass to get in and out of the car mainly do to placement and working conditions (usually they go out at bad times). I helped replace one on a early model SE-R in the middle of winter in a walmart parking lot. :( It was like 10:00 at night when we started, probably 35-40 degrees outside, and all we had for lighting was a flashlight... at least it was a maglight...:D Oh yeah, I've heard with SE-R's that if you get below 2 gallons your car won't start. Like if you run down too low, you'll have to add at least two gallons of gas before it'll start. anyone experience this in a G?

My Volvo had two. One that pumped a large quanity of gas at 5psi in the tank and one up in the engine compartment that boosted the psi up to about 150psi before it was injected into the engine.
