My new taco

Was looking for a new truck, not too expensive, but good quality as I drove my last truck over 200,000 miles with minimal repairs.
Drove them all, really liked the Taco Ex Cab, IMO it displays the finest build quality of all the offerings.
Bought one yesterday, 4x4, XCab, 5spd, V6, SR5 and convenience pkg, styled steel wheels.
I treat all my my new vehicles to a proper

break-in (but don't tell Toyota).
BTW, my only rant is that neither of the two accessory sockets are "hot" when the ignition is in the off position -- inconvenient for leaving the cell phone charging.
Any suggestions?

Go to http://www.customtacos.com/tech/ and you'll see some interesting solutions and one does cover what you are talking about, i.e., making the 12VDC accessory sockets hot all the time.
Let me know what kind of gas mileage you are getting with you 6 cyl. I have a 4 cyl and now wish I had gotten the 6 cyl. I'm only getting 20.5 MPG and I bet you are getting pretty close to that.
Hope this helps

Thanks bj,
It's too early to tell on the mpg, I've only 169 mi on the truck, but will let you know.

Congratulations! I just bought a very similar truck a month ago. Kind of funny - I actually gripe about the "always on" accessory power in my Yukon, but it seems that more folks like it.
Interesting article on engine break-in. Your secret is safe with me. :)
Take care,
Jerry

Nice truck Vroom2.
Yep, they are similar, mine sans TRD; I didn't need the height or locker 'cause it will never see the dirt. I bought mine to pull a small trailer, less than 2000 lbs. It hardly ever snows or ices around here, but the few times it sure is nice to have 4wd.
I'm thinking of investigating lowering the truck 2" all around, but from what I've been reading it is fairly expensive. Also thinking of a set of highway tires; Kuhmos, Yokohamas, or Michelins.
All things in due time.
BTW, after two days of 5000 rpm run-ups, changed the oil and filter today, just to flush out the small amounts of grindings.

Thanks! They're excellent trucks. I put a set of Yokohama Geolanders on mine - very happy thus far. Most of my driving is on the highway as well, but I wanted to ensure the load rating was there for hauling loads and towing a small trailer.
Just did the first oil change too...minus the 5k run-ups. :) Is it just me or is the oil filter in the most absolute inconvenient spot possible?
On a side note, I tried the 'alarm upgrade' tip from the customtacos site. Doesn't seem to work on the '04. Oh well.
Take care,
Jerry
