i have a 93 Camry V6 XLE, now according to the manual with the stock tires it says i think 32psi. but i wonder if thats correct as i no longer runt he stock tires.
i used to run continetal touring lx's in 205/60-15 which said they should be a max of 44psi, so i made them 40/42ish. then i switched to bf goodrich traction t/a (btw great tire) in 205/65-15. again they say 44psi so i run 40/42ish.
so whats the optimal psi here for the tires, what the manual says it should be or what the tires say. my days in school autoshop always taught us to go by the tire..but im just wondering if im indeed overinflating them and wearing them away more premtaurely.
btw, i dont have the steel wheels i have 15x6 the alloys so i dunno if that matters.
Thanks to anyone who helps out :)

The maximum pressure shown on the tire shouldn't be used as a guide to fill them. Use the recommended pressure as shown on your door sticker or a little above. I usually run 34 or 35 psi if 32 is recommended. The recommended tire pressure on the door is a compromise between handling, time life, and stiffness. I like better handling and better tire life at the expense of stiffness. Going to near the maximum tire pressure as shown on the tire is quite extreme. You may be stressing your tires.

thanks for the advice Bryan, ill try it out and drop them to 35 and see what happens. i really did have any wear problems on my last set save for the fact i was going way to fast around turns and wearing out the edges.

You're welcome.
BTW, putting premium tires on your car will make a big difference in how it feels and handles. With tires, alot of the time you get what you pay for.

yea, i know. thats the main reason i went for the more expensive tires than the cheapo pepboys tires for 60 bucks. the bf's cost me around $90 a tire and are the best i have bought in a long time. the wet performance is a key factor i like about them as up hearinthe northsnow can be hazzardous as i found out with the old tires.
i almost wound up either in a farmers field or into a grove of trees this past winter on those damn continentals. was going about 20mph too on a sweeping curve when the wheels lost traction and i slid :(
again thank you for your advice, its a great help.

ok, I missed the part about the Goodrich T/As. I only read about the continentals. Good choice.

thanks, i did my research and it was either the bridgestone potezas or them tbh.
oh btw i have another question, since i have had the car (5 or so years) i have noticed that it tends to steer to the right a bit. now i know the roads (save for hw's) are normally slanted a bit but a few times to to various curb rashes (yea i was once young and stupid too) i had the car aligned 2-3x but it still pulls to the right anyways. its an old car for being a camry so i attribute the over steer i have (like maybe 1 - 1 & 1/2 inches) to the roads as on the highways the problem isnt nearly as evident if in the center lane..
just wondering, as its always good to ask the advice of others.
thanks again :0
