anyone plz help...something wrong with clutch

hey everyone...well my car has been driving great and everything except for the past couple of days...well about a lil over a week ago i put in a new clutch master cylinder....but this problem has come up....and i dont think it has anything to do with it...

sometimes when i come to a red light and sit in neutral before it turns green....but sometimes i will put the clutch down and it wont go into first still...which funcking blows...

another example

when i was sitting behind my house with the engine putting it into gears...i was hard for all of them and some of them wouldnt engage at all...and other times it would go through all of them smoothly so i am kind of lost of this problem....and i am getting tired of putting damn money in this thing and getting only one good week out of it :banghead:

please help me!

It sounds like you may have some air in the system, since you just changed the master cylinder that's a definate possibility. Try bleeding it again. When the problem occurs does the stick feel really loose, like the gears aren't there at all? In that case it might be a linkage problem. Hope this helps.

Air could be the problem. Its also possible that if the gears don't engage, the cluth may be depressing completely, but the shift linkages are maladjusted.

I had this problem 2 weeks ago. both linkages have adjusting nuts on them. Its about 5 minutes to adjust and a lifetime to perfect.

I'd actually start there.

what do i have to do to adjust them...you said 5 minutes...? damn thats quick....

i got another question....the stick in my car is real loose i can shake the hell out of it....it i dont tighten it soon will it wreck anything??? just wondering becasue i have to wait to the weekend...could that cause bad enganement and disengaement?

I would have to say that as long as the gears aren't grinding, then you probably won't hurt anything. Be careful driving though, missing a gear could get you in a bad situation with fireo brakes.

the gears dont grind....it is just the stick in the car is real loose ya know? and it has to make it another 3 days..lol

Fieronerd how do you adjust them in 5 minutes becasue i need to do that saturday....

It sure sounds like the shifter cables need adjusting. I have an izuzu 5 speed but the method should be the same.

The method:
1. Remove both ash trays and remove the 2 screws hidden under each.

2. Remove the shift knob and lift off the shifter console/trim plate

3. Near where the shift lever is attached to the detent cable you'll see a small hole. Below it is a solid piece with a matching hole.

4. Shift into first gear and find a suitable drill bit or ice pick, line up the prementioned holes and place it through both of them.

5. Under the decklid locate the shifter cable mounts on the transaxle. Each cable is attached using a single stud through a slot in the bracket.

6. Loosen the nut on one cable and slide the stud down in the slot to remove as much slack as possible. Tighten the nut.

7. repeat step six with the other cable.

8. (optional) Repeat step six again with both cables, one at a time.

9. Remove the drill bit/ice pick. Replace the shifter console/trim plate. Reinstall the shift knob.

If you get to the bottom of the slot in the mounting bracket, (on either cable) the cable is too far stretched. It needs to be replaced.

so when i do this...it will fix my problem for sure...?

Yep. That one or the '85 4 banger automatic I'm trying to buy - the guy wants $800 and I'm letting him sweat till he takes 4. It's just a 2m4 in "OK" shape so nobody would pay $800 for it. It does have premium sound/speaker seats, power windows and air conditioning though so I really want it. Winter's comming soon and I want to be able to be able to pull a Fiero in the garage, fire up the propane heater and start stripping it down to a bare chassis for sandblasting, rust repair and painting. I've learned here in Wisconsin you don't start building up a custom car until you know for a ONE HUNDRED PERCENT FACT there isn't a square millimeter of rust on the unibody. I know a guy sitting with a 67 Mustang that was fully restored to the tune of $32,573.88 3 years ago - it's sitting up on blocks with a cracked frame because he didn't get behind the right rear quarter panel to find the rusting frame rail just in front of the rear end.

Right now I'm building a car cradle and exploring engine options - a year or 2 from now you might just see the worlds only Fiero 662R - 6 cyl, 6x1 bbl carbs, dual exhaust, roadster.

Yeah I think 4 is a good price for that car...premium sound...well i need to still upgrade mine and i might put a 10" or two...but need the money first.....i wish i could pull my car in a garage and work on it...i would have a refrig...and a whole bunch of stuff there...if you make it into a fiero 662R im going ot have to come by and see it lol...shit my family lives in Michigan and i go up there every summer... but right now i am save money little by little...i already have enough for the crank pulley and short shifter =)

do you think that headers with a borla exhaust would sounds good....and about how much hp would i get out of them...

Aftermarket Headers don't do much good over the stock 2.8 S-10 truck exhaust manifolds used on V6 Fieros unless you run true dual exhaust (no Y or crossovers at all) using Sanders Chevy 2.8 headers with custom bent pipes to dual mufflers - Borlas are fine, Flowmasters are great too, or if you really wanna wake up the cops, go with Cherry Bombs. :) The only trick to this setup is that O2 sensors have to be installed in each header and hooked in series so the ECM properly detects oxygen levels in the exhaust gas. Without this vital information the fuel injection system won't operate properly except when the engine is cold. (Don't ya just love EFI?)

ohhh dude cherry bombs are awsome...i had a friend with them on his supercharger t-bird...=) hmm i will look into what you said...

did you get that white fiero? are you going to put a v8 in one or a 3800 series 2 supercharged in any of them?
