Um, its perfectly suitable. Its controversial, but suitable. Im not going to say bye bye forever. We have had these problems before with other contests, they are usually put on suspension until contest voting is over.

I don't think people care how many modifications you have as long as the car looks good. A simple rim swap may be too little but you don't have to chop your car to pieces and rebuild it to have a fine looking car. Don't feel intimidated.

Hey mike, in our progress thread, do we need to post pictures up until the final product or will a few pictures with some ideas we have do? i dont want to post tons of pictures so people can see what we are doing to our cars, or that ruins the surprise :D

Yes, post pictures of your progress up until you finish.

so for each mod we need to do a picture for it?
FlySkyline
08-29-2004, 11:34 PM
No. For the actual voting, there will be only one picture of your car shown. You can have multiple pictures of your car and everything you did to it in another thread if you would like, and then you can have that thread linked to the picture shown for the voting. For progress pictures, I assume that you will have to have pictures of your modifications as they are completed.

oh....i think the rules shouldve been changed. as we should only have pictures of the car we started out with, and how it looked before we started modding it. and then for the voting process we could show the final product with all the mods we have done.
FlySkyline
08-30-2004, 01:19 AM
Well the rules can be changed. I personally would have it been set up so that you post a picture of the car you are going to be entering, no progress shots (shows everyone what you are going to be doing and ruins the surprise) and a final thread when the car is finished showing whatever you took pictures of that you wanted to show. But on the flip side of it, posting up progress pictures will attract more people to come and visit, it will make for better competition (one persons progress inspiring another person), and the single photo for the voting also isnt that bad because it doesnt kill people who are using dial up, and it also makes the voting easier to set up, and you can have a link to a thread containing all of the pictures of the mods you have done, all the finished work. All in all, although I may not agree with the rules, they are probably the best.

Just for clarification Fly, How many pictures do I need to put in the progress thread? I know I only send one pic to Mike but I don't want to give away the game too early.

It would be best if you have progress shots of every modification you do to the car, and if that is not possible at the moment, atleast state what the modification is and/or what it does if you cant or dont want to provide a pic right away. But remember we still have until December to get it done. I feel you on the "give away the game to early". I am waiting until 5 or 6 weeks left to do all my major custom work, just because you never know what will happen, and I want to make sure I have everything planned out, I just dont want to get started and come up with a better idea, or the idea I am working on isnt going to work. You can kind of tell who the newbies are because they are rushing everything done and posting it up, dont get me wrong its nice to see the forum active with all of these customs. But if you get your entry done now, and come up new and better ideas, you are going to have to start all over again. And if you get done now, what are you going to do for the next couple monthes?

For me .. I will wait till the deadline to submit the finished truck. I will still post progress up / untill it's finished. You might only see the truck in primer or a few blurred pics :naughty:. But I'll keep on posting.
I too have some ideas for some trick stuff, just won't see it till the end, and too many for one project.
I'll just have to start another project if I finish a month early :smokin:

thats what i do :D i always start out with really small stuff or work on a specific part of the car (for the contest i have started with the engine bay as you can tell :D). I hold off on any major body work until i really find something that not only looks good, but flows with the body and fits the car accordingly. i had problems in the past (and i think this story is true with all of us) with doing major body work, and when it came to the details, the body work i did didnt flow. and then the car is scrapped. i already started my progress thread, and will show most of the stuff leading up to voting time.

I know exactly what you mean. I have an NSX out in my shop with a half-baked cowl hood and side skirts that appear to have been savaged by wild animals. Its not pretty anymore.

Sorry about not being here guys, there have been some family emergencies I was getting caught up with, as well as school, and working on my business.
Let me make some clarifications.
Post pictures throughout the build in your progress thread. Act as if you werent even in the contest at all, just post up pictures throughout the build The reason I wanted to have the progress threads is to get this forum running well, with a large visiting population. Pictures attract people.
Anything else I need to clear up?

Hey mike, can we post a sticky with a list of the cars that are being done for the contest, so 1.) we dont have a flood of people doing the same car and 2.) people doing the same car as someone else and ripping off their ideas or work :D it will also help some people decide what car to do, so they can pick one that isnt being done yet or one that isnt one of the more popular entries?

Hmm, got me inspired to play about with an old broken model that has been laying about for a year or so now.
I don't think I did read you had to, but should I have been posting a photo of the 'before' in it's standard form? I have already started playing with it. I'm messing about with a 1/18th BMW 850CSi. Currently banana yellow with matching yellow wheels and yellow seats.
It now has a full DTM roll cage fitted but have yet to decide what wheels to fit. I have a short list I have tested. Need to get the camera linked to the pc again so I can post up some progress pics.
