If you are thinking about heads, I have authored an article on swapping heads. You '94 heads are not worthy of any mods, you can't even put a decent set of cams in them. The easiest thing to do is to install a '99 up "PI" (that's Performance Improved) engine assembly.

Aside from headers and high flow cats, NO exhaust mods will result in ANY power gains on a car with dual exhaust already.

Cold air, forget it, there is little you can do with a CV, even with lots of $$. The BEST thing for an intake is a Marauder Airbox and MAF assembly, but you NEED a chip for that. It WILL improve power.

You stock AODE transmission is limited to about 200 RWHP with any reliability. The good news is that you can install a later ('98 up) "4R70W", and all you have to change is to swap the solenoid pack from the old trans into the "newer" one, and make minor alterations to the shifter arm. The details are available for ALL this stuff a www.crownvic.net in both the tech section and archives. To search them, make sure you choose "all posts" from "in the last week" in the search screen options.

thats a crock of shit. only thing wrong with those heads are the combustion chambers. you make it sound like nothing will work. do a little chamber work and bowl work to improve flow, have a biger (2.5 " exhaust with high flow cats, at least to the tail pipes.) just trying to get you there cheaper. tail pipes aren't as important as the "beginning" also, port the upper plenum, if you have one. i only had one 4.6, and that was in a cougar , i think it was a 94. had a custom h pipe made, installed new cats, ported heads, upper plenum, MAF sensor, installed chip. this thing picked up enough power to make my girl hang on for mercy when i hammered it. see....i think what makes a good mechanic is making something work better with the least amount of money in it. i didn't say time, but MONEY. see, i'm not rich, so i can't just go and buy new heads, cams, so i come up with ways to make whatever i got, run more truer, the way it should run. you can make a lot of hidden power come out with the time and patience. use a dremel, but keep the reciept, cuz if your like me, they will burn up on each project car. just reurn it at wal mart, and get another to continue....lolwhen doing the heads, pay attention to the valves also, you'll see were they seat on the head after lapping them, well the rest of the metal abovfe were they sit, gind and polish that area to make them look like the SUPER HIGH flowing ones in catalogs.... it's cost you maybe 5 or 10 dollars.........guess i'll sit back and wait till someone tell me im wrong about everything.....:nono:
