MY ABS light has come on and I can hear something running after I have turned the car off. The dealer says I need a new EBCM (part #88982293) which costs $800 plus installation. Where could I find this part used?

Go to gmpartsdirect.com. They sell original GM parts. Your part number comes up as a module that is half the cost of a dealer $404.64 plus S/H. I use some aftermarket parts, but if they make a aftermarket ABS module I would not recommend it, stick with OEM for parts like this. Then there always the junkyard, but that a risk in itself, good luck.

Thanks for the tip. Their price is better than the dealer, but they tack on a hefty ship / handling charge. Their delivered price is $486, but it seems like the least risky of other used part options. Thanks again.

Standby, I didn't believe you on the S/h charge until I looked it up on thier site. I love to get on thier ass on this one for the S/H charge and give me a good explaination for a 8 oz. part for that amount of shipping, will get back to you.

If you go back into gmdirect site, click on customer service. To the left are common question associated with thier web site. The first one is why S/H charges are so high. I didn' realize this, that thier S/H charges help defray the cost to maintain thier web site. What code number did your vehicle give you, should of been a C####.You also might want to check the electrical connections at EHCU(Electronic Hydraulic Control Unit) located along the left frame underneath. Your EBCM is part of this unit. Check the wire connections leading off of this also. You can't always believe what the dealer is telling you, also you can aquire the part and pay a reputable brake mechanic's labor to install it, dealer does not have to do it. Good luck, let me know how it works out for you.

I too am having the same problem as the original poster as of today. I flat out refuse to go to the dealer and I'm driving my Tahoe straight to my trusted mechanics shop first thing in the morning. Hopefully it's just a simple wire connection and not a $500 part!!!!

Go to ebay and type in EBCM and you can send it in to be repaired for $150.00 or less.

This probably comes much too late for this instance but I have had a 2000 and 2003 suburban that had the ABS and Parking Brake dash lights come on intermittently. The solution I found was a grounding problem.
There is a small ground wire secured to the top rear of the engine block on the passenger side. The ground connection gets compromised by dirt, grease or rust over time. I removed the connection, cleaned the surfaces and replaced. I have not had a recurrence of the dash light issues.
Whether this will solve the ABS pump running issue I cannot say but I would think they are inter-related problems.
