Ok well.. The whole problem was the opti-spark. The shutter wheel distroyed itself. Now, before that happened i was haivng the problem of no power. It stumbles, chuggs, and sometimes backfires under about 3000rpm, I dont even have enough power to spin the tires, and my gas mileage has gone out the window. I have also noticed that my exuast manifold has been glowing red. It also smells like its running a little rich, I dont have any check codes.

well, ive never done anything with the z28's, but im pretty sure that you remove the y-pipe and the cat as one piece, and the cat should slide off the end (with some effort)...

lotus49, can you onbolt the cat from the rear of it and hang it down low enough to get a long screw driver with a hammer and start hitting away??? this would save you the trouble of a muffler shop...
Glad to hear you where able to get it all figured out... I kinda thought it was the opti, about 90% of the timee it always is...

hey, thanks.. well. i was really looking for a way to remove it, Is there any special way i should cut it out? i think when the pipe goes into the cat it is not completly round. Is there a place that might have an adapter? Oh and the cat and y-pipe are one piece. I cannot slide the cat off without cutting it off

well then, that sucks. ofcourse you can cut it off and straight pipe your exhaust, but then the car wouldnt pass inspection. what you can do, is remove the y-pipe and everything, get a big ass drill bit, some 1in pipe, and a hammer to gut your cat. same effect, gives the illusion of legallity...
