First Time at the Track

Yesterday, KrNxRaCeR00 and I made it out the Pacific Raceways. I think we might have picked one of the worst days to go, not because it was busy, but because of the conditions.
Another driver out there had a military type thermometer and it read 91 degrees w/ a 4mph wind...that's hot for WA.
A lot of people were complaining about running slower than usual. I saw a mustang GT running 15.3-15.4's. KrNxRaCeR00 and his type-r didn't break into the 14's, and I was hanging at mid 15's all day.
I got 9 runs in overall and had a blast. My avg. r/t was around .510 and my avg. 60' time was about 2.57....sigh. Obviously my launching is my problem. My trap MPH averaged out around 92mph, so I should've been in the 14's....oh well. My last run of the day was my best:
R/T .513
60' 2.404
330 6.410
1/8 9.760
MPH 72.52
1000 12.732
1/4 15.22
MPH 92.03
So I definately need to work on a lot of things, but all in all I had a great time.

Well, at least you got your first time out of hte way. :)
I would concentrate on the launch and the shifting.
Don't get hung up on reaction, it does not factor into your ET. It only matters as far as beating the other guy to the end of the track.
2.5s are not horrible for a first time in a FWD car.
What tires (size/type) and pressure were you running?

I'm not positive on the size of the tire, but they're yokohama's on my stock rims. I think I was running about 31psi.

.... I would try 26 psi ... then 23 ... then 20.
One of those will hook up much better than 31 psi.

yea...I knew I had to let out some air, but I wasn't sure what would be the ideal amount. Thanks!

I agree with Jekyl. Lower the tire pressure a little.

Thanks for posting your times. Your mph is illustrative of high 14's. I can't even begin to tell you how much shit I got on another forum for running 2.3 sec. 60' in my former Z28 (With and without drag radials). Most people don't do that well at the track. I think alot of people BS.

Yea...driving, especially launching, really isn't easy at the track. And I'm sure the people who DO post good time have either had a lot of practice, or like you said, are BSing

Practice helps alot. The first time I went to the track I got 2.5-2.7 60's.

2000LS1Z28, people were probably getting on you because you have RWD and people are jerks.
2.3's for a FWD car is typical since when they launch the weight trasnfer off of the power wheels ... you and I have RWD so the weight is going to the power wheels providing better traction.
In the MR2 would, 1.9-2.1s are typical.
If an MR2er hits 2.3s ... they either:
1. spun really bad
2. bogged like hell (boost lag)
3. way too much tire pressure (see #1)
I suspect you were in the same boat.

Wow i think i'm lucky. With my shitty 205's on my car i got 2.2 60' times.
I dont think 92mph will net a 14 second e.t.
On 1 run i got a 92.93mph and still only ran a 15.10 with a 2.3 60' i got that time. But then again my car DIES top end so maybe with a better 60' you can net a better mph.

I never saw his slips, but I think he averaged out around 15.2 all day. He seemed pretty disappointed with his launches.
Who knows, him being a moderator and all, maybe he'll actually COME ONLINE and post some times...

Yeah I believe you are right. I think the LS1 powered F bodies are really hard to launch, especially due to their torque. The stock suspension doesn't lend itself to transferring weight that well either. I didn't touch the suspension that much. Honestly this Evo makes things a whole lot easier, and I find that most people at the track run 2.3-2.6 sec. 60' wise, so I outright kill them out of the hole. I think AWD is probably the only setup that will work for me, and I still need more practice with it (Just hope the stage one clutch holds up).

I'm more or less impressed with your reaction times then anything. Most poeple, definately not me, are consistently hitting .5's their first time at the track.
All I ever managed with the S-10 the first time at the track was 2.3 & 2.4 60ft times as well so no big deal, you'll be able to bring it down sooner or later.

I'm glad you said that Jeckyl, lol. My reaction times Saturday were (.500 base tree): time trials; .539, .526, .497, eliminations; .525, .512, .504, and that was using a delay box and a trans. brake! I was thinking "man, this guy done as good as I did going off the foot brake!"
I lost the race with my personal best reaction time-only driven the car 7 total times-becuase I let up when the car set the front tires down becuase it "wiggled" slightly-which was my fault becuase I let the steering wheel "wiggle" slightly when the car set the front tires down-causing me to run a 4.548 on a 4.46 dial-the other guy had a .530 RT and run a 3.951 on a 3.89 dial-making the margin of victory .001!!!

here's the ugly stats:
R/T: .094
60': 2.441 (ran consistant low 2.3-high 2.2's in my gsr grrrr....)
330: 6.516
1/8: 9.852
MPH: 73.82
1000: 12.725
1/4: 15.15

I went to test n Tunes on Wednesday and it was pretty bad. Keep in mind this is at 6500+ feet.
BR of the day / Best Run Ever
R/T: .415 .078
60': 2.461 2.379
330: 6.431 6.299
1/8: 9.717 9.547
MPH: 75.30 76.04
1000: 12.591 12.392
1/4: 15.002 14.781
MPH: 94.17 94.91
It just kept getting worse too. I need new rear tires, an oil change and to clean my air filter.

That's not too bad, considering the condition. Seems like your car was begging for a better launch though. ;)
Start driving like you know you have an LSD. Totally different dynamics than your GS-R, which you might have gotten used to. Once you get that down, you should be solid in the 14's, even with those conditions.
Also, any Classic SE-R's running that day?

the entire day, i was trying to find the right spot to launch. i just couldn't find a happy medium between bogging down and spinning, so my 60's were in the mid 2.3's to high 2.5's even (still ran a 15.1 off that 60'.) my mph was usually around 93 mph, i just never had the ET behind it.
im not too worried about it, jus wanted to run it down at the track before i sold it. we'll have to see wut my "next car" will do next year.
ah...that day i didn't see any "Classic" SE-R's that day actually. infact, i dunno if i've seen one since i've been home. like 97tsi said, it wasn't that busy there, so there weren't that many cars out. i'd say there were under 20 imports there that night. we did get to see some 10 second snow mobiles tho...VERY sick.
