Beginners Questions.

Does anyone know what size turbos came on the 2000+ 1.8T GTI's? Are all GTI's FWD? I was thinking i saw some that were AWD, but every time i looked up the specs on them, it said FWD. Isthere any Volkswagon/Golf/GTI specific performance companies? Example of BMW M3 specific company (www.aatuning.com) How modification responsive are these cars? I want a 2000+, 1.8T, 2 Door, Manual, AWD, GTI. Does it exist? Thanks.

K03 and K03 sport for newer models, all GTIs are FWD, the AWD one is the R32 Golf

specific performance companies, search a little, some are audi/VW exclusives

all gtis are fwd as he said, awd = r32 and golf 4motions (only sold in europe)

as for specific companies (by this i take it that you mean something comparable to like... spoon/mugen for honda, nismo for nissan, TOMS for toyota, SVT for ford, etc right?)
if so, then theres abt for vw/audi (vag)

technically, yes, but you'll have to drop another $10k for an AWD haldex system into your gti or swap drivetains with a quattro audi tt, which costs alot too. if you want the whole thing installed for you, hpa motorsports does it.... for a good $16,000 U.S. good luck bro :)

sorry, I found out there was a 4motion golf in europe AFTER posted that and searched a little, I was wrong

and yea, you need to put a lot of dough for the AWD conversion

so when you think about it, how people say the R32 is over priced, it really isn't
the best VR6 to date, with the beautiful body kit and twin musical exhaust
better interior, brakes, suspension, wheels, etc. etc.
and most of all, a great AWD system
if you do all this to your VR6 or 1.8T, it'd be much MUCH more than what you are paying for for this car
it's actually very worth it

and if you think the R32 ain't fast enough, well from a stop it ain't, but from a 60mph roll.. there are tests that show the r32 is faster than an evo and sti from a 60mph roll, which is indeed nice

oh and if he was talking about the company tuning teams like SVT, TRD and others

I have seen some articles talking about how VW might be taking their "R" line further than just the recent body kits and the R32
the R36 is damn nice, it's probably the ONLY MkV I like

soon maybe that'll be making a whole VW development team outta the "R" line thing, I'd like to see VW having a performace tuning team of they own like NISMO, SVT and others
they DID start the whole hot hatch thing, they should take it further now that the real "gti" is back as some claim

the r32 comes with a very very sexy steering wheel too... and the clutch is perfect, so are the seats... *drool. and if your buying an r32 just for speed, then you wasted your money (well not really...). i'd rather have handling and practicality with the adrenaline rush

the R32 is not a drag car, it's a track car

don't buy it if you are looking for 1/4 car, but do look at it if you want a track car

for example, sti (wagon) beats r32 on dragstrip, but r32 beat sti wagon by 1 full second on the same track with the same driver on the same day. good stuff :thumbsup:

this was back in europe btw, before the r32 came out to the states.
