The ship in the beginning is a ship the Predators use to travel around to planets they hunt at. On these ships, there's two type of Predators. The Blooded, and the non-Blooded (Yautja). The Yautja are the juvenile Predators who are in the process of becoming warriors. They go out in a group with one or more Blooded to earn their Mark of the Blooded. This is usually a real-life fight with Aliens on some designated training ground. In this case, that's the pyramid found under Antarctica.
The two Predators killed in the beginning are the Yautja. Inexperienced warriors who are forced to use hand-to-hand combat against Alien drones. That being said, Blooded seldom fight hand-to-hand because of the ferocity of the Alien drones, thus why they use the shoulder-cannons (they refer to them as burners).
In the movie, the three weapons the humans remove from the box are indeed the burners. Why do they trigger the pyramid and eventually the queen alien? That means the Predators are ready for combat.
Anyways, the two Yautja get owned quickly because they're untrained. The older Predator lasts a long while because he's Blooded and been through it before. Also notice the difference in masks they wore? That's another example of Blooded vs non-Blooded. Once a Predator Yautja successfully kills an Alien, he becomes Blooded and earns the mark of his trainer on their forehead, and this is etched using a mixture of Alien blood and Predator blood, called thwei (the blood itself, not the mixture). This is done like this because as we all know, Alien blood is acidic, however, Predator blood acts likes a neutralizing agent to the Alien blood. So their blood makes the Alien blood less acidic and doesn't allow it to burn through.
When the human woman kills that Alien, you see this plainly. He takes Alien Blood, mixes some of his own, and gives her a Blooded mark. His Blooded mark (but on her cheek, ghey).
So anyways, that is the long and short of it. There's lots of more details I have, but I'll end up writing a book myself if I go through tem all. This will explain in detail the movie a little better to those who have seen it and why things happened the way they did.

There are three books, which are relatively old compared to the movie. I copy/pasted the brief stories because I'm lazy, but I agree with the reviews that "Prey" was the best one.
"Prey: Aliens Vs. Predator, Book 1" (1994)
Authors:
Steve Perry
Stephani Perry
Randy Stradley
Chris Warner
- On the planet Ryushi, two types of alien life forms descend on the planet and grow with abandon. A woman named Machiko Naguchi must help a group of unarmed ranchers defend against Aliens, who aim to slaughter the human populace. A Predator may be Machiko's best ally, but you can guess the ugly creature may not be willing to play so well into her plans.
"Hunter's Planet: Aliens Vs. Predator, Book 2" (1994)
Authors:
David Bischoff
Randy Stradley
- Having survived the Ryushi colony massacre in Book 1, Machiko has abandoned her human heritage and decided to run with the Predators. Eventually, she decides to return to the humans and accept a job on Hunter's Planet, an amusement park-style world in which Predators run amok. It's up to a certain battle-scarred warrior to reign them in. While the first book was critically acclaimed, Book 2 is looked upon as a less lively sequel.
"War: Aliens Vs. Predator, Book 3" (1999)
Authors:
S. D. Perry
Randy Stradley
- The mythos gets twisted around a bit in the finale. Machiko is still the second character, and identifies with the Alien Queen somewhat, while the Predators, who had previously been depicted as warriors with some sense of an honor code, are now just outright evil. Readers were irritated that Book 3, which took place in continuity before Book 2, altered the timeline and history as each had been understood before.

I didn't think that it was too bad. I do agree that the storyline could have been better developed, but it's another one of those "vs" movies, would you expect anything less than what you got? Anyway, I'd see it again, and I'm sure there is going to be another one. They can't end it the way they did and not have a sequal.

I vote for Alien. They got the blood that eats through anything and the best of the mauling skillls. Predator is too reliable on its electronics. What if they fail?

Uhm, it is just entertainment? like half the other movies in the world? But it would be scary for humans because the two creatures are using our planet for their battle field. It's like England and France going to war in Texas.
its a movie c'mon u think the badguys are gonna win
In some movies they did win. In Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, the enemies did win, by using our own computer and defense systems, which was also the enemy: our own computer grid and network. The movie director proposed a slight theory that we are simply making our computers too smart. But the point of this movie was simply for entertainment, and the follow up from Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
In The Day After Tomorrow, the enemy almost won, and proposed a decent theory while acting around another. The enemy in that movie was ourselves. The reason is: global warming caused a temperature rise at the poles, and caused a bigass portion of a glacier to fall into the Atlantic Ocean, causing an unequal balance in the ocean's temperature and abnormal weathering patterns. Then the three massive storms formed that covered half the world caused literally another ice age. The point of this movie was to consider the theories of climatology, and meteorology, and combine them and make a motion picture on how the ice ages possibly formed in the past, and how one could form in our time; with some stretching of the movie and theories, and an added story line with famous people.
All this may sound a bit like bullshit, but in our world, any thing is possible.
I'm only 14, and said what I made up of some of the movies and books I have read already related to the movies. I have a alot to learn for my time to come, but I was only saying the things I said, based around my opinion, and my knowledge of certain aspects.

Ok, i just got done seeing it. I loved it pure 8/10 stars or what ever. I loved the mythology of it and how it explained pyrimid making throught history. And the talked about Antartica being habitable, which most people didnt know it was. Well tuff shit it was, thats an actual fact. I also loved that the predators didnt get thier guns right away because they would have own3d if they got them. Story was good but the directing was trash. I also loved all the characters getting killed off real quick, most movies dont do that. The human/predator team-up was gay.He could of handled himself just as well by himself. What i didnt understand was why if the predators didnt have thier guns yet and they knew the shit was about to hit the fan because everything was started early, then why didnt they pick up some of the machine guns? All in all a too short movie with a great great story and bad directing and of course it was produced by FOX that was in idiot idea. I liked it and cant wait till it comes out on dvd, i wanna see some deleted scenes and multiple endings. Later :)

Actually, if you would have taken things about the movie into consideration, you'd have seen that it gives a little info as far as the predators and aliens. It tells you how the predators came to Earth and shows how the aliens fit into their lives. Granted, that wasn't the main focus, but it was an intent no doubt of the writer/director.
Also, for the record, bad guys win in a lot of movies. Ever seen Empire?
