Civic or Hatchback??

im torn on which civic to get. either the civic si or the civic hatch back. if i get the si, it will be around a year 97-98 but if its a hatchback im gonna get a year 94-95. i have got many different opinions and i still dont know which one to get. hatchback is faster but people says its a trashy car cuz usually trashy people have em and its kinda not as nice as the civic si. i might not even get the civic si, it might be a lx or ex. what does the letters even stand for? i know si is the best but whats the next best? please help me decide on which car to get cuz i really dont now what i should pick anymore. what do you think the price ranges will be for the car with good mileage? im planning to hook up these cars alot and use stick. thanx for any tips or help
p.s. i would also appreciate if you could tell me the name of a website where i can compare the civic and see how they both look in those year ranges.

i would go with the hatchback if your not getting the si, but if it is a si i'd rather get that

Unless your in canada, they didnt make the civic si in 97-98. It is the EX here in the states though. As for the hatchback...if your getting a 94-95, get a Si hatchback with the D16Z6(SOHC VTEC).;)

I would get the Si.

Don't recall them being available in 97-98 though.

....unless getting a newer car is going to break you and leave no $$ for mods

...then I would go with the older hatch :alien:

It doesn't matter what kind of people drive the hatch. I could care less about that because I know I am far from trash :)

In the states, they have a Si hatchback, might want to ,ook into that if you want the best of both worlds.

Its only SOHC though, not DOHC like the 99-00 Si Coupe.;)

Whats years are available for the SI? and if i wanted a si hatchback, i should get around a year 94-95 because i heard after that, the bodys look ugly, right? one more question, are all si's vtec or are the lx or ex ones also come with vtec?

You can get a Civic Si as a hatchback from model years 92-95 that has the D16Z6 SOCH VTEC (as 90CRXZCSI previously said) or you can get a 99-00 coupe style Si with the B16A2 DOCH VTEC engine. Personally, I like the newer Si, but if you don't have a lot of money to spend on a relatively new car, the older one is cool. If I am wrong on any of the model year numbers, someone pleeeaaaseee correct me, I don't want to be giving out false info  .

why are you asking people for you're opinion? ARE they ugly? what do you think?

)I have both a coupe and the hatchback...I can tell you that they are both very lovely cars.:D My next car will be an OG civic (I'm talking way way OG, like before I was born:D ) anyways...you can't really go wrong with either of the cars you've mentioned. The SOHC VTEC Si hatch was made from 92-95 and the B16a DOHC VTEC Si coupe was in 99-00. Both are relatively fast for USDM Civics, probably the two fastest ones we got stateside. The 99-00 Si has all the luxuries of the 92-95 Si plus a better power train and suspension/wheel package, only disadvantage is that it's a bit heavier than the 92-95 Si hatch. the 99-00 Si has more potential unless you plan to swap. Either way, it's a good choice, you will love either one...I do.;)

A 4th gen? I'm not real fond of the 4th gen, but whatever floats your boat.

Before or after you add the mods? It won't be very much in the way of performance until you mod it.

If that exhaust is really dual, you'll want to change it. That dual exhaust will rob your power. Otherwise, change the short ram to a cold air, change the platinum plugs to standard NGK V-Powers. Lastly add NITROUS.:D

Three things:

1) Hatches are light.
2) Light hatches work well with more power (i.e. swap).
3) Don't write in caps, its obnoxious.

seeing as how the 92-95 hatchbacks were Sis and in Canada the EX is Si and was available from 96-00...you need to clarify.

the 99-00 Si is a coupe w/ B16A2 and in Canada it is the SiR.

People get hatchbacks because they look phat, they're more "JDM", when the motor is swapped - they're faster than coupes (w/ equal drivers and conditions), and othe reasons.

B16A2 Civic CX hatch (stock header and intake, after market exhaust - hey the Si has a 2" stock!) vs. a B16A2 Civic Si coupe (stock)

The CX will win in a straight line and chances are the hatch - with supension and brake mods will roast the heavier coupe in the twisties as well.

then again...the coupes do look VERY nice and it's a whole lot easier to start w/. Also..sunroofs are always cool to have

now thats what im talkin about ...an old 78 cvcc...totally restored to its shit brown paint job sputtering out a massive 50 hp after 30 pounds of boost. nah but it would be cool to restore one. they are rare though. i almost never see them.

i would go with the hatchback. even though they aren't fast right away, unlike the si, when you make it fast a hatch can be the shit.

I think i made up my mind thanx to all ur posts
Im gonna go for the Civic Si year 99-00 Coupe cuz they look so hot and plus they can go really fast. I dont have that much money to hook up a hatch back especially to swap the engine cuz then there are gonna be problems with the engine and i dont wanna deal with that. im just gonna get the Si and put in a turbo kit and shit like that, i dont know much about cars but my bro does so hes gonna help me out with it. my dad said he doesnt wanna spend much on my first car. he only wants to spend like $5000 but if i cant convince him to buy me the Si, then i might get the hatchback instead but i might pool in a little money for the Si. after my first car he said hes gonna get me my REAL car, so he would be willing to spend more on my second car but i want the Si now :( if he wont get me the Si, im not gonna use up my money on it, im gonna wait a year or two till i sell it and my dads buys me the Si. Thanx for all your opinions and posts, it really helped :silly2: Would anyone know the price of a good 99-00 Civic Si Coupe??

95hbMatt
02-17-2002, 11:09 AM
i would go with the 92-95 hatchback cx,vx, or dx.....it's real light and you can probably find one for real cheap.....the Si hatchback comes with more options than the other models i stated earlier....such as sunroof, 4-disc brakes, a/c, power steering, etc....the Si hatch is going to cost a little bit more than the cx,dx, or vx hatches.....so for a bone stock hatch you're lookin at spending $2000-$6000 depending on the mileage and what not......
then with that extra money you would save from not getting the 99-00 Si do an engine swap.....also the 92-95 hatchbacks have many options for body kits......get a good suspension, some nice 15" or 16" rims and you're good to go!

95hbMatt
02-17-2002, 11:18 AM
the 99-00 Si coupe goes for about $13000+.....i don't know what they retail for know but last year they were going for $16-17,000
i guess you just have to shop around

my parents used to take me to chucky cheese if my grades were good. and that ended after 4th grade. kids are getting their choice of an expensive car for having good grades now? i better start saving up for the house that my kid is gonna get for having good grades....(with inflation going at this rate, im expecting he'll either want a house, or a small airplane)

im 16 right now and my birthday isnt to far away. a 95 prelude isnt that expensive though, maybe around 8 to 11 thousand for a good one. i cant wait to get it :D if i do get it...

my car cost 2800, and im still paying for it - 8-11 isnt expensive? 8-11 isnt a lot for a car, comparitivly speaking, but it is for a 16 year old who is prolly gonna get it totalled, taken away, blown up, etc..ARGH! DAMN KIDS!!!

Hey, ive been driving for a while now. its not like its gonna be my first time in a damn car. i drive all the time so i have experience somewhat. i think i might end up getting a 95 hb to work up on my clutch technique and get more experience so i can drive better with the prelude. plus its a car i dont really have to care much about. i can make a few mistakes on it and not worry about it. i dont plan on being a idiot like other kids and running stop signs and speeding my car for stupid reasons. im gonna take car of my car, im not gonna push it hard for no reason like other kids i know. they f***in push it hard when theres a red light like 10 damn feet away! i feel bad for the car but its a mustang so i guess i dont care. all my dad wants from me is good grades and im not doing so great now. im gonna have to do pretty damn good this last quarter to get my prelude. and if i do get the prelude, im probably gonna have to put like $2-3 thousand in myself. i think i might get a job over the summer or something like that to get myself some cash.

it all depends on what you want. The style of an si coupe is somthing that can be ether classy or sporty. (or a bit of both) Whith hatches , you basicly only get sporty. Either car has high potential for speed and esthetic mods. All and all , if one body speaks to you more then the other, then go with it.:)
