03 SVT Cobra vs 03 M3

in terms of straight line acceleration, which car would win from 0-150 and from 100-150? the cobra definitely seems to have better acceleration in low gears and even the quarter mile i believe is higher for the cobra......however, the m3 is geared quite a bit higher and i believe it can reach about 170 if not for that damn 155mph limiter. but even the cobra i think can reach close to 160, so i'm not absolutely sure if the m3's high end acceleration would be enough to beat the cobra. i think from 100-150 the m3 would win but from 0-150 i have my doubts. can anyone clarify this for me?

o and btw, even if the cobra was faster, i'd take the m3....four usable seats, beautiful interior and exterior, superb handling, and a high revving I-6....sure makes my cup of tea.....

The M3 is a far superior sports car, but for straight-line speed, the SVT Cobra is king.

agreed on all points already mentioned. straightline racing, i'd find it surprising for even an M3 to beat a cobra. it won't get smoked but it i would bet on the cobra. high end it'd certainly be a closer race. but it'd take more than the mustang has to offer to convince me to choose it over an E46 M3. just my opinion.

M3 for everything except street light to street light racing and drag racing...

For me, Cobra all the way.

I'd love to tune one, too. Increase the boost, or ditch the blower for a turbo setup, add some suspension work, and you'll have a force to be recknoned with on the track or the strip.

Cobra's got some serious potential, it can be an awesome car. As for a completely 1 dimensional comparison the cobra wins the straight line.....but when you look at the big picture the M3 smokes the cobra

The Cobra was built with straightline speed in mind; the M3 is a good all-around sports car though.

No comparison whatsoever...

BMW M3 all the way.
The exterior/interior says enough...

well now that we've all decided that the cobra is the straight line winner, which do you think would win around a track?......correct me if i'm wrong but i'm pretty sure the m3'll kill it around a track.....does anybody have some lap times on the nurburgring, nordschliefe (dunno the exact spelling), etc. which we can use to compare them?

The SVT Stang was practically built for the sole purpose of drag racing, while the M3 had to take other things into consideration (ie. handling, interior, styling...). I absolutely love the M3 it is my favorite street car ever, by far. I bet in the higher range, the two cars will be pretty close in acceleration. Probably a drivers race. Now on the track on the other hand, the M3 will absolutely destroy the Stang. Comparing these two on the track is a joke.

i beat a 318ti with my 93 mx-6, so they arent that fast (although i think my 6 is quick...) but i think bmw's are among some of the best built vehicals out there.

318ti? thats nowhere near an M3 i would def choose the M3 i would only have 2 think twice if it was a SVT cobra R .... then i would still get M3, its an amazing car.

dude... no offense... but what the hell are you talking about? :screwy:

m3's are NOT 318ti's, and an m3 would smoke your car. and BMW do rule. :sunglasse

yah i know, i dont know what i was thinking there. my bad. i saw 2 m3's today, very sweet car. the guy didnt seem to know how to drive though, i was behind him on my bike and he almost ran a red, then when it turned green he sat there for about 15 seconds, then he was going 30 in a 45....

i was just curious.......since the cobra is significantly cheaper than the m3, if we go a little higher up the ladder to the limited edition cobra r, then how would the cars compare? personally i'd still take the m3 simply because its aesthetically FAR more pleasing, sounds better, and has four usable seats......but i'd like to see how much faster and how much better handling the cobra r is in comparison to the normal cobra

The Cobra R uses a 5.8L V8, right?

5.4 v8, but this is the cobra R which comes with no ac, power nothing and is not the '03-'04 s/c cobra.

i would take the cobra btw, i just realized the exhaust sound on an m3 is weak, even if u were to put a aftermarket exhaust...

& in a track race, i think it would be a close one, i know for sure the m3s a good track car, but the '03-'04 cobras come with irs rears and big ass brembos.

not to make this choice a bit tougher but brand new:
m3 = 50k (some where around there)
svt cobra = 35k (somewhere around there)

i remember when m3s first came out and after a year the prices were still bullshit, i mean cmon 60k for an m3????????????
i can buy to evos for that!
