Well Guys, school is out for me for about 1 week. So I have had some time to draw. :)

Here is a 2004 Mustang Mach1, Saenz tuned of course...hee hee.

I enlarged the rims and made them deepdish and added some lowering.
It was done w/ graphite on 14x11 paper the car is about 12.5 in wide.

Thx for checking it out.

Al

... Calm down there turbo.

They are very good. Very deep lines, and very discriptive. Flows very good.

The Pony in the backround really gives you some visual aid in reference to the car itself. Nice affect.

it's just tyte stuff. the horse head logo thing is just tough as hell. he has brought it into illustrative art. not just rendering-land. there is evidence of emotion there: he is an illustrator.

i want to see what else is up his sleeve.

Wow, amazing work Al! Didn't notice the horse background for a while lol! I love your style btw, looks effortlessly drawn but precise and very detailed. You've come along way since you first started your sketch style drawings.

asaenz (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/member.php?u=35634): Did You use any tools for this Mustang?

I did not use any sweep curves, templates, or grids but I used a proportional divider to help me keep proportions on point. The divider replaces my index card method of measuring proportions. It is also known as single point of reference. Here is my link for using SPOR.

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=1878622

Proportional divider can take the place of the index card. One side of the divider is used to measure the ref. pict. the other to measure your drawing.

Thanks SeCrEtMoDdEr

So your ref. picture would be the same size as your drawing, would it be alright if you used a ruler instead of the divider? If I used this method would my drawing still be freehand?

Well the drawing would be larger if I scale my index card to be larger (which is what I did in the example above). W/ the divider I scale larger also. My ref. picts are about 6-7 in in length and my artwork ends up around 13-15 in.

As far as your ? about freehand. I guess no tools except pencil and paper are considered free hand. I am not sure perhaps Bonzelite or Lemorris would know for sure. I don't let that bother me to much because I do use freehand w/ my divider. The divider is a quick way to verify that my proportions are correct. Some times I do entire drawings w/o anything except pencil. I will start to do more of those.

Thanks for clearing that up for me, just wanted to know because I didn't want to use a tool and say I did it freehand. I might try using a tool but those will be seperate from my freehand drawings. And can't wait to see more of your work!

wow Al!!

I thought I already chimed in on this one.

The freshness in your mental approach is very apparent in your renderings.

We've talked before and I know this art thing is more than just something you do. I know it's who you are, and you are outstanding!!

Do more.....NOW!!!!......our learning suffers when you lay back.

-Lemorris

p.s. All you pencil-nubs look close. There's real feeling in the line. You can see the thoughts. This was no accident.

Hey AL,

You asked me about color so here's another cool thing.

Lots of times you may really like your pencil work but want to add color to it without losing the flow and emotion in your sketch line.

Here's how:

Open your drawing in PS add a new layer. In this new layer use a selection tool to select the area you want to color. (In the following example I used the polygon lasso tool, and didn't worry about being too specific...loose)

fill your selection with a color or airbrush your color in and then change the layer property to "color". This will add the color you have filled your selection with into the dark pencil areas under it.

It enables you to have the best of both worlds.

see?

If you're interested I know another action based percentage fill technique that allows you to build up color in small increments like washes in PS.

holy shyt.

lemorris
08-18-2004, 10:26 PM
yeah Bonz!!

I forgot. This will work great on your drawings.

I think the color layer property replaces the black in any area less than 50% and multiplys or adds itself into any black over 50%.

It's a weird property, but it does some cool....ummmmm...shyt. LOLOL

lem, i'm having to bookmark the threads where you make your tutes or tute-like commentaries. there's so many little things that i cannot keep track of them.

it seems that the magic of p-shop is just below the surface. and we need to unlock the pandora's box. you help in this way a lot, and i appreciate it.

Wow, that is awesome. I will try some color enhancements when I get a chance. Thx Bonzelite and Lemorris.
