First Ping Post

Okay Gentlemen, This is my first post. I usually search the archives and come up with what I need. 1999 4 banger. Problem; Slight ping at cruising speeds, never under load. Won't run reg. gas. I've replaced EGR valve, both O2 sensors, TPS, IAT sensor, ECT sensor, sucked about 8oz. of distilled water through the intake system. New plugs and wires. It is a little better but still has the prob. It's more pronounced when the outside temp. is over 90. We still have a month or more of high temps to deal with.
What next, MAF ?? Sledge hammer to intake man. What??
Thanks
Fudd

on the right side of engine compartment there should be a pip connector - it's a gray plug about an inch wide and half inch thick dangling from 2 wires - pull it out and go for a drive - this will normaly take care of the problem

the PIP (profile ignition pickup) connector - by removing this connector it retards the timing about 2-3 deg. - not enough to give you drivability problems but usualy enough to take care of the ping
